Events across the Lake Norman region this week range from town board meetings to dance lessons to fundraisers to live music. The Beautiful World of Watercolor Exhibit continues in the Davidson Town Hall every weekday during business hours, featuring artist Jim Kerr and his students. The Cornelius Planning Board will meet Monday night at 6:30pm in the Cornelius Town Hall to discuss Phase 2B of the Antiquity Development. Also on Monday, Summit Trivia Night continues at Summit Coffee starting at 7:30pm. Craft coffee and beer available for purchase. Starting this Tuesday, two seven-week sets of shag dance lessons will be offered in Mooresville by Twister’s Shag Club, a non-profit social group for singles and couples age 21 and over.

Starting on Tuesday, June 11, two seven-week sets of shag dance lessons will be offered in Mooresville by Twister’s Shag Club, a non-profit social group for singles and couples age 21 and over.

Beginner lessons start at 7:30pm and are for those who don’t know how to shag (or those who want to learn the proper technique).

Beginner II lessons start at 8:30pm and are for those who have taken the first class, or are comfortable with all of the basic steps and are ready to learn more. Continue Reading

Band of Oz plays a Davidson Concert on the Green Sunday.

Hot rods and specialty cars will be on display at two auto shows in the Lake Norman area this weekend. On Saturday, Davidson Farmer’s Market will have a “Breakfast of Champions” food fundraiser, featuring meals prepared by local chefs. And Saturday night, don’t forget Summit Coffee’s Summit Solstice 4-mile race and festival, a fundraiser to help fight malaria in Africa. These events and more will taking place this weekend in the area – read on for more highlights and a link to our full community calendar.

The Davidson Green School will be holding an information session on Tuesday, June 4th at 5:30pm at the Davidson Public Library. Stop by to learn about an innovative new approach to education in our community. Also on Tuesday, enjoy some wine while you practice painting at the Lake Norman Cottage starting at 6:30pm. For more information call the Lake Norman Wine Cottage; cost is $45 a person.

On Wednesday, Davidson College Presbyterian Church’s (DCPC) and Davidson United Methodist Church’s (DUMC) career support programs will merge to create “The Davidson Career Transition Program,” a jointly sponsored program of both churches. It will meet from 10am – 12pm, twice a month in room 216 of DUMC’s educational building. On Thursday, Woodlawn School seniors and their families will celebrate their graduation at the 2013 commencement ceremonies, held on the Woodlawn Campus starting at 9am.  Continue Reading

The first weekend in June brings the stunning realization that we are nearing the halfway mark of the year. Before you panic and start thinking about Back to School, Labor Day, and, dare I say it, the Holidays – which, let’s face it, will be here before we know it –  take a moment to relax, soak up the sun, and listen to the sounds of summer.

We are fortunate to live in an area with an abundance of outdoor activities. One of my favorites, besides boating and spending time on the water, is live music. And, I especially like it when it’s free. That’s just what this weekend offers. Free live music every single night for the whole family. Continue Reading
