Tonight, the North Mecklenburg Woman’s Club hosts their 5th annual “Over the Tabletop Fundraiser” to benefit the Build Betty a House project at 6pm at the Peninsula Country Club. They will also gather tomorrow at 10am. Our Towns Habitat is hosting their annual “Tastes of Habitat” fundraiser at 6:30pm at the Charles Mack Citizens Center in Mooresville to benefit Women Build event. Two independent movies have been filming in the area over the past couple of weeks, attracting curiosity and questions. We’ve tracked down some information about the flicks “Captive” and “Mountaintop.” Meanwhile, the Indies + Docs film series at Cornelius Arts Center will be back on Saturday, Nov. 16, with the Beatles documentary “Good Ol’ Freda,” while the Davidson Film Club is back Nov. 23 with “Broken.” 
Concerts, lectures, a Harry Potter-themed dinner at Vail Commons, and performances of the play “Reckless” are among the many public events this month at Davidson College. Robin Emmons, the founder of the farming and food nonprofit “Sow Much Good,” will give the annual Chidsey Leadership Lecture on Nov. 13. And United Nations development official Paul Ladd will give the annual Bank of America Lecture on Nov. 19. He’s the head of the United Nations Development Program’s Team for Post-2015 Development Policy. Here’s the schedule:
