Community School of Davidson middle schoolers will perform “Mockingjay” Saturday at Lake Norman High.

More than 27.7 million copies of Suzanne Collins’s dystopian trilogy “The Hunger Games” were sold as of last year, more than the whole Harry Potter series. That caught the attention of Community School of Davidson’s dance teacher, Sara Keys. The students knew the books, but even before the books were made into blockbuster films, Keys began bringing them to life for her students by choreographing dances inspired on the trilogy. The holiday season is in full swing in the Lake Norman Region this week, with several holiday themed-events in addition to community meetings and gatherings. Santa Claus is visiting Cornelius Fire Station No. 1 Monday afternoon from 4pm-8pm. At 7:30pm, the North Mecklenburg Community Chorus presents “A Merry Carol of the Bells” at Davidson College Presbyterian Church, and het concert will be repeated Saturday at Community in Christ Lutheran Church in Cornelius. We’ve stuffed ourselves with turkey and are now in the heart of the holiday season. Feeling a bit bah-humbug-ish? I’ve got just the cure with several weekend events sure to lift even the most Grinch of spirits.

Wasting no time we start tonight (Thursday) at Christmas in Davidson. Plenty of seasonal fun on tap for this annual three day celebration that wraps Saturday. Streets will close each night from 6pm to 9pm, Thursday, Dec. 5, to Saturday, Dec. 7, as visitors shop local vendors, enjoy musical performances, view a live nativity, and meet up with Santa. Winter is in the air this weekend, with numerous holiday activities across the Lake Norman Region. Christmas in Davidson returns Thursday to Saturday on Main Street in downtown Davidson. Opening ceremonies are tonight (Thursday) at 6pm, and numerous events such as a Doggie Fashion Show tomorrow at 7pm and a Ugly Christmas Sweater Contest on Saturday 7pm will take place throughout the weekend.
