The first screening in the new venue is the breathtaking 2015 indie drama, “Whiplash,” winner of three Oscars and many other awards.

A young drummer attends a high-end music conservatory where his dreams of greatness are mentored by an instructor who will stop at nothing to realize a student’s potential. This breath-taking film is a study in harsh educational methods– both physical and mental, and the cost of “success” in a highly competitive field.

This low-budget independent film made it to the top of 2014’s acclaimed dramatic films, and is notable for its amazing technical, emotional and narrative innovations.

Tickets are just $9.00 for all, including wine tasting and snacks.

The Hope at The Lake Foundation will hold the “Scramble for Hope” golf tournament at the Trump National Golf Club Charlotte, formerly The Point, Monday June 1. Hope at The Lake, which was founded 10 years ago as Hope at The Point, has raised more than $1 million to benefit charitable and non-profit organizations in the Lake Norman area.

The tournament will be a four-person captain’s choice scramble format with awards and prizes. The field is limited to the first 32 teams that submit their entry fee, which will include awards and prizes, golf and cart, beverages, breakfast, lunch and hors d’oeuvres following golf. Entry fees vary depending on the team sponsorship level, which can be found on the Foundation’s website at hope-lake.org.

The tournament is open to the public and will provide the opportunity to play the Trump Charlotte course designed by Greg Norman, which has undergone significant upgrades in the past two years. For more information about the Scramble for Hope including entry forms, visit the website, e-mail hopeatthelake@gmail.com or call Bryan Gibson at 704-658-0828.

Cornelius PARC invites citizens to a dedication ceremony for a new “Little Free Library” at Cornelius Community Garden, on Monday, June, 1, at 5pm.

Parking is limited at the garden, but available at Smithville Park, 19710 S. Ferry St.

What is a Little Free Library?

It’s a “take a book, return a book” gathering place where neighbors share their favorite literature and stories. In its most basic form, a Little Free Library is a box full of books where anyone may stop by and pick up a book (or two) and bring back another book to share.

An estimate of Little Free Libraries in the world as of January 2014 was 15,000 in at least 56 countries. On average, each of these libraries goes through a minimum of 25 books per month.
