SUMMARY:Reception: Remembering Roy Alexander
DESCRIPTION:[caption id="attachment_29124" align="alignright" width="216"] Roy Alexander (DavidsonNews.net/2009 file photo)[/caption] The Town of Davidson and Davidson Lands Conservancy Board of Directors will host a reception at Town Hall this Friday\, Feb. 27\, to honor the life of Roy Alexander\, the conservancy leader who passed away Jan. 11 at age 72. The reception will be from 5 to 7pm in the Town Hall Atrium\, where there's currently an exhibit of photographs and tributes to Alexander\, who for nine years was the conservancy's first executive director. Roy’s wife\, Sue Peck\, and their two children will be at the reception\, which will include drinks and snacks. Guests will have a chance to share memories of Roy\, and to hear others discuss how Roy’s life had such a profound impact on our community. Davidson Town Hall is at 216 S. Main St.\, Davidson. The exhibit in memory of Alexander will remain on view until March 13. Another tribute to Alexander is planned on March 14\, when the 11th Annual Green Ball at Davidson College will be dedicated to his memory. The dance and conservancy fundraiser is 7:30-10:30pm in the Lilly Family Gallery of Chambers Hall on the Davidson Campus. SUMMARY:Theatre: 'Ordinary People'
DESCRIPTION:[caption id="attachment_28735" align="alignright" width="300"] The Davidson Community Players presents "Ordinary People" Feb. 26-March 15.[/caption] Davidson Community Players presents "Ordinary People" by Nancy Gilsenan\, based on the novel by Judith Guest\, from Feb. 26-March 15 at the Armour Street Theatre in Davidson. This is a powerful look at a typical suburban family dealing with a traumatic family event that deeply strains the relationships among the remote mother\, the well-intentioned father and their anguished son. They are all “ordinary people” and each is fighting a hard battle. “Audiences will be moved by this powerful story well-performed by an outstanding cast\,” says Matt Merrell\, executive director of Davidson Community Players. “This is a show to be shared by families and loved ones.” Performances are on Feb. 26-28 at 8 p.m.\, March 5-7 and 12-14 at 8 p.m. and March 1\, 8\, and 15 at 2 p.m. Advanced tickets are $20 for adults\, $18 for seniors and $12 for students. Tickets can be purchased by calling the box office at 704-892-7953 or online at DavidsonCommunityPlayers.org.
