SUMMARY:Lecture: Foreign Media in North Korea
DESCRIPTION:&nbsp;    "Broadcasting into the Dark: Foreign Media in North Korea" is the topic of a Dean Rusk lecture given by Nat Kretchun\, associate director of InterMedia\, on Monday\, Feb. 23. It will take place at 7 p.m. in the Lilly Family Gallery of the Chambers Building on campus. The lecture is free and open to the public.    About Kretchum: Young and dynamic\, Kretchum dedicates his work towards better understanding the perspectives of North Koreans and how foreign media influences their perceptions of the outside world. He interviews North Korean Millenials\, defectors\, refugees and more to gather the data his team uses to broaden our understanding of life in North Korea. He oversees quantitative and qualitative research projects with a particular focus on Asia and hard-to-access populations. He has designed\, managed and analyzed studies ranging from large scale representative national surveys of China to qualitative studies examining digital communication patterns among Uyghur populations. Nat has done extensive research with North Korean refugees and defectors and is the co-author of A Quiet Opening\, North Koreans in a Changing Media Environment\, a groundbreaking study conducted on behalf of the Department of State\, on the use and effects of foreign media on North Koreans. He holds a master’s degree in international economics and China/Korea studies from Johns Hopkins SAIS\, and a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of Oklahoma. He has also studies at Yonsei University in Seoul and Fudon University in Shanghai. He speaks Korean and Mandarin Chinese. SUMMARY:Auditions: 'Defying Gravity'
DESCRIPTION:Auditions for the May production of Jane Anderson's play "Defying Gravity\," to be directed by Marla Brown and co-director Talbot Hall\, will be Monday\, Feb. 23\, at 7:00 pm at Warehouse Performing Arts Center in Cornelius.      Bring a headshot and resume (if available). Auditions will consist of cold reads from script. If you are interested but cannot make the audition time\, please email: info@warehousepac.com    Production Dates: May 8-23 (1st weekend: Friday/Saturday……  2nd: Thursday - Sunday…… 3rd: Thursday - Saturday)    Rehearsals begin March 22nd. Generally Sundays - Thursdays\, 7:00 pm.  Actors should expect to rehearse 3-4 times per week until 3 weeks before opening\, then 5x.        Available Roles:  Elizabeth - an adult (late-teen 20-something) who plays a five- year-old   Teacher - woman 30s-40s based on Sharon Christa McAuliffe  Monet - the artist 35+    About the Show:   This beautifully creative script explores the 1986 Challenger launch and our need to reach beyond ourselves & dare the universe. Defying Gravity artfully interweaves the past with the present---drawing parallels among painter Claude Monet's artistic quest\, and the aspirations of a teacher selected to be the first civilian in space. Artists involved in this project will strive to remind audiences to dream and live big.
