At noon\, the Event Room will open to the public and participants will meet members of the MURDOCK Study Community and Healthcare Advisory Boards\, together for the first time. The public is invited to the event\, which will begin with an information fair at 11 a.m. in the Core Laboratory Building\, 150 Research Campus Drive in Kannapolis. Duke’s MURDOCK Study\, other universities at the North Carolina Research Campus and additional campus partners will host tables in the Core Lab atrium\, and participants will learn about a variety of research study opportunities based in Kannapolis like the MURDOCK Study.    Investigators working on the following three MURDOCK Study research projects will present updates and answer questions:     Multiple Sclerosis Study\, presented by Dr. Sabrina Cote   Memory and Cognitive Health Study\, presented by Dr. Kathleen Welsh-Bohmer and Michelle McCart   Healthy Aging Study\, presented by Dr. Miriam Morey    The event includes light refreshments and will end at 2 p.m. MURDOCK Study participants are encouraged to bring a friend who would like more information about enrolling in the study.    Duke University is working to enroll 50\,000 people in the MURDOCK Study. So far\, more than 11\,000 volunteers have joined\, providing their health information and donating small samples of blood and urine. Everyone planning to attend should RSVP by emailing murdock-study@duke.edu.    Researchers are using the information and biological samples as they work to reclassify disease using advanced scientific technologies and a network of partners. Researchers are working to ultimately identify links across major diseases and disorders and find ways to treat and even defeat some of today’s leading causes of illness and death. The MURDOCK Study recently expanded enrollment to China Grove and Landis\, in addition to Kannapolis\, Cabarrus County and other portions of Rowan\, Stanly and Mecklenburg counties.    Duke launched the MURDOCK Study in 2007 with a $35 million gift from David H. Murdock\, founder and developer of the North Carolina Research Campus. The study’s name stands for Measurement to Understand the Reclassification of Disease Of Cabarrus/Kannapolis.

DESCRIPTION:    [caption id="attachment_28647" align="alignright" width="199"] Dr. Denis Arnold[/caption]    Dr. Denis Arnold\, professor of management and Surtman distinguished professor of business ethics in the Belk College of Business at University of North Carolina-Charlotte\, will discuss “Multinational Corporate Ethics: Managing Labor Conditions” on Thursday\, Feb. 19\, at 7:30 p.m. The discussion will take place in the Hance Auditorium of the Chambers Building on the Davidson College campus. This forum\, hosted by the Vann Center for Ethics\, is FREE and open to the public; no ticket is required.    Arnold’s research focuses on business ethics\, sustainability and public policy. He has published extensively on ethical issues in international business\, including labor practices in offshore factories\, and business and human rights. In addition\, Arnold has an active research stream focused on organizational ethics and public policy regarding the pharmaceutical industry. His publications include more than 40 articles and chapters\, and six books. Arnold is the editor-in-chief of Business Ethics Quarterly\, currently ranked No. 1 of 50 journals in ethics by Thomson Reuters Journal Citation Reports. He is also a past president of the Society for Business Ethics\, the main professional association for business ethics scholars in North America. Since 2008 he has served as area leader for business ethics at UNC-Charlotte's Center for Professional &amp; Applied Ethics. Arnold has appeared in more than 20 different local\, regional\, national and international media outlets on business ethics and public policy topics. He has also consulted with and trained executives and managers at a variety of large companies regarding best practices in organizational ethics.
