SUMMARY:The Zodiac Series by Miss Lotus at Brick Row Gallery
DESCRIPTION:Brick Row Gallery presents an OPENING RECEPTION for "The Zodiac Series by Miss Lotus."         The opening reception will be held during the next 2nd Friday\, February 13 6-10 PM. The show will remain up for viewing until March 1\, 2015.    Zodiac is a new series by Charlotte street artist\, Miss Lotus (follow on IG @MISSLOTUS_). Featuring her iconic female character as the twelve astrological signs\, each piece is painted on wood and cut out by hand.    [caption id="attachment_28498" align="aligncenter" width="590"] Miss Lotus' street art can be found all around Uptown Charlotte and her Zodiac series on wood will be shown at Brick Row Gallery Feb 13-March 1.[/caption]    MISS LOTUS:  Before moving to Charlotte in 2006\, Miss Lotus studied art at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn. The presence of street art in her home town of Los Angeles as well as New York City inspired her to add her own mark on the Queen City. Her wheat pasted female figures represent her presence in this town as a female street artist. Her icon\, the lotus flower has a rich meaning. Its seed must sprout from mud at the very bottom of a lake bed. The seedling must then work its way up through the deep darkness\, searching for light. When it finally reaches the surface of the water to find the sun\, it then blooms into a beautiful flower. Her message is one of determination\, persistence\, and drive. If you can overcome all obstacles and stay positive\, then you have the opportunity to thrive.

DESCRIPTION:Woodland Discovery\, an educational nonprofit that provides play-based\, outdoor activities for children\, is holding two informal "come check us out" Open Houses this month. On Feb. 7 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.\, bring a picnic and the kids to hike and play and fish if you bring your own gear. On Feb. 13 from 6-8 p.m.\, bring your dinner to cook over a campfire or just come hike or fish or play. Come anytime\, for a few minutes or the entire time. Learn more about preschool\, summer camps and other programs.    Interested in a "forest school" approach to preschool for 2014-2015? Applications will be available Feb. 1. Children must be 3 years old by Aug. 31\, 2014\, and fully potty trained. Save the date of March 6 at 7 p.m. or March 7 at 4 p.m. for information sessions and viewing the film "Schools Out - Lessons from a Forest Kindergarten." Perfect for the Valentine’s season\, The Last Romance is a delightful romantic comedy about love in the golden years.   Ralph\, an elderly widower\, feels young again – all thanks to an unexpected second chance at love. Relying on a renewed boyish charm\, Ralph attempts to woo the elegant but distant Carol.
