SUMMARY:Film Screening: "Polyester" at Studio-C Cinema
DESCRIPTION:"Polyester" is a satire on the popular 1960s and '70s TV sit-coms that featured perfect upper-middle class families\, like "Leave It to Beaver\," "Father Knows Best\," and  "My Three Sons." Those and many more showed most family problems weren't very serious\, always had a humorous bent\, and were easily solved. Polyester turns those shows inside out and upside down\, to see another truth. Though the Fishpaw family lives in an ideal suburbia\, the father runs an adult movie theater\, and the two children are troubled victims of pop culture. The sensitive mother\, Francine\, (played by underground star Divine\, who created the role of Tracy in "Hairspray") is driven to distraction by her philandering husband\, delinquent children\, critical mother\, and addled best friend\, Cuddles. Francine falls for a gold-digging gigolo (Todd Tomorrow\, played by '50s heart throb Tab Hunter). Despite all sorts of mayhem\, (including many broken screen taboos)\, the children finally see the light\, and help Francine recover to achieve her happy\, loving family. The Studio –C Cinema showing will feature “Odorama\,” where patrons will given a card with ten scratch-and-sniff patches to be smelled at key points in the action. Doors open 6:15 p.m. for complementary wine and cheese reception\, and art gallery browsing.  Screening begins at 7 p.m.  Informal discussion follows.  Cost: $9 Cornelius residents/$10 non-Cornelius residents.
