WFAE Conversation: Our Water
April 22, 2014 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm
Event Navigation
Public radio station WFAE-FM, 90.7, continues its Public Conversations Series on Tuesday, April 22, with “What’s In Our Water?” a program examining the Charlotte region’s water quality. The event runs 7-8:30pm in the Wells Fargo Auditorium at Levine Center for the Arts.
The Piedmont region depends on a small number of rivers and lakes to provide a reliable supply of clean water. But a variety of factors including suburban development, storm water runoff, sewage spills, coal ash storage ponds, etc., could threaten the area’s water quality. Last year, a river advocacy group ranked the Catawba River as the nation’s 5th most endangered river.
Moderated by WFAE reporter Lisa Miller, the conversation will address the cleanliness of the current water supply, threats to water quality, and the proper roles of local and state governments, business and industry, and the public in developing and maintaining sustainable water quality.
Panelists are:
- Richard Gaskins, executive director at Catawba Riverkeeper Foundation.
- Barry Gullet, director at Charlotte-Mecklenburg Utilities.
- Joe Padilla, executive director of Real Estate Business and Industry Coalition (REBIC).
- Rusty Rozzelle, water quality program manager at Charlotte-Mecklenburg Utilities.
Free admission; registration requested online here.
