Event Navigation
ESPN columnist Rick Reilly will be the guest speaker and former Davidson College basketball star Bryant Barr also will be among the celebrities at a fundraising dinner Tuesday night at Davidson College to benefit the United Nations Foundation’s Nothing But Nets campaign.
The dinner runs 6-8pm at Davidson College’s Lilly Family Gallery, where Reilly will be the guest speaker. Tickets are $50 per person, $350 per table. Ticket information here.
Earlier Tuesday, from 11am to 1pm, Reilly, Barr and others will be serving Summit Coffee’s new Bzzz Blend coffee at Summit, 128 S. Main St.
Proceeds from Bzzz Blend and the dinner will go to purchasing insecticide-treated bed nets for families in malaria-ravaged regions of sub-Saharan Africa. The blend will be sold at Summit Coffee Co. locations, online, and through various UN Foundation and Nothing But Nets partners.
Reilly, who will be inducted into the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association Hall of Fame in Salisbury this weekend, is one of the founders of the Nothing But Nets campaign. His 2006 Sports Illustrated column, “Nothing But Nets,” inspired hundreds of thousands to donate more than $1 million to the UN Foundation. Since then, Nothing But Nets, together with its UN partners, has distributed more than 7 million bed nets to families throughout sub-Saharan Africa.
