The Dean Rusk International Studies Program is pleased to present Dr. Khaled Fahmy, Professor and Chair of the Department of History at The American University in Cairo, Monday evening, November 17, at 7:00 pm in Tyler Tallman Music Hall. The title of his lecture is, “A History of the Egyptian Revolution.”
Khaled Fahmy is a scholar of impressive breadth. He is a social historian of the Middle East whose work pays particular attention to the history of law and medicine. His long list of acclaimed publications includes titles such as, All the Pasha’s Men: Mehmet Ali Pasha, His Army, and the Founding of Modern Egypt; Anatomy of Justice: Law and Medicine in Nineteenth Century Egypt; and The Body and Modernity: Essays in Medicine and Law in Modern Egypt.
Much of Khaled Fahmy’s scholarship explores one fundamental question: To whom does the body belong? Considering this question gives him a unique perspective on the Arab Spring in Egypt and on the fundamental questions it raises about rights and liberties.
Dr. Fahmy’s lecture is part of a series of events leading to the opening of the Theatre Department’s production of The Prophet on Wednesday, November 19. The full schedule of events is attached to this message.
The lecture is free of charge and open to the public.
