Shelley Rigger
The next Davidson Senior Scholars meeting is this Wednesday, March 12, 2014, with a lecture on “Changing Leadership in China, Understanding the Implications” by Davidson College professor Shelley Rigger. Professor Rigger will review China’s first year under the new leadership team headed by premier Xi Jinping and talk about developments in both domestic and foreign policy.
Davidson Senior Scholars is a monthly lecture/discussion group for adults 55 and over, organized by Davidson Parks & Recreation. The meeting begins at 1pm in the board room of Davidson Town Hall, 216 S. Main St.
Professor Rigger has a bachelor’s degree from Princeton University and PhD from Harvard University and is a leading expert on China, Taiwan and U.S.-China-Taiwan relations. Her most recent book is a general-interest volume titled “Why Taiwan Matters: Small Island, Global Powerhouse.” She also has authored two books on Taiwan’s domestic politics as well as numerous articles. She’s currently studying the effects of cross-strait economic interactions on Taiwan people’s perceptions of mainland China. She has testified before congressional committees and trained military leaders and is a board member of the National Committee on U.S.-China Relations.
