Catawba Riverkeeper Rubber Duck Race

Festivities will begin at 10:30am. Educational booths, food vendors, and a rehabilitated hawk release (if patient is ready) from the Carolina Raptor Center will entertain guests until the race starts promptly at noon. Also before the race, Coca‐cola Bottling Co. Consolidated will host a rain barrel demonstration and give away 15 rain barrels.
CRF staff and volunteers will launch rubber ducks in the creek adjacent to the band shell bridge. The finish line will be near the bridge to the Charlotte Nature Museum. Winners will be announced immediately after the race. The grand prize winner will receive $1,500, and more than 20 prizes will be awarded. Prizes, totaling $2,500, were donated by local businesses.
The Catawba Riverkeeper Foundation Annual Meeting will commence at 1PM in the Mahlon Adams Pavilion in the park. The public is invited to hear the State of the River address, given by the Catawba Riverkeeper.
How to buy a duck
Entrants may purchase tickets to reserve rubber ducks starting immediately. Duck tickets can be bought individually for $5, in a “family” of five for $20, or in a “flock” of 20 for $75. Nearly a dozen localbusinesses will sell tickets: Whole Foods Market, Jesse Brown’s, Brawley’s, Great Outdoor Provisions Co., Omega Sports (Park Rd.), Blackhawk Hardware, Triple C Brewing Co., and Birdsong Brewing Co., Moe’s Southwest Grill (East Blvd.), and Park Lanes.
Staff and volunteers will sell tickets at Freedom Park on two weekends before the event. Tickets may also be purchased online through the Catawba Riverkeeper Foundation website (www.catawbariverkeeper.org/ducks). To buy tickets by phone, contact the CRF office at (704) 679‐ 9494. Participants may also mail a check to 421 Minuet Lane, Ste. 205, Charlotte, NC 28217 to reserve ducks.
