Because chances are yesterday (or the day before) it did and the birds in my backyard have confirmed it with their brilliant chirping and choreographed mating dance routines. The Rotary Club of North Mecklenburg will raise money for Angels & Sparrows Soup Kitchen in Huntersville and the Seed Program International at its annual Pancake Breakfast and Talent Show Saturday, Feb. 8, 2014, from 8 to 11:30am at Bethel Presbyterian Church, 19920 Bethel Church Rd, Cornelius. A 4-foot by 6-foot mural of Dale Earnhardt Jr. and the No. 88 National Guard Chevrolet is made up of more than 1,100 images submitted by fans. It’s being sold to raise money for Mooresville Artist Guild.

The Community Arts Project on North Main Street in Cornelius has opened its registration for winter classes and workshops. Classes for all ages include Mini Masters, Homeschool Art: Advanced Color Studies, Drawing for Teens, Intro to Monotype and Painting with Watercolors. The organization also is getting ready for its big annual fundraiser, the “Have a Heart” Valentine’s party, Feb. 8. Read the full story

It may be cold during the week, but temperatures are expected to warm up for the 16th annual Polar Bear Ride on Saturday, Jan. 11, in Davidson. The Rocky River Road Club sponsors the half (50K) and full metric century (100K) bicycle rides through the North Mecklenburg/Lake Norman area, as a fundraiser for Davidson’s Ada Jenkins Center.
