Warehouse Performing Arts Center in Cornelius was forced to postpone this weekend’s final performances of “Frozen” after a cast member was kicked by a horse. Shows are rescheduled to next weekend, Feb. 17-19. Also, Davidson Community Players’ Connie Co. holds auditions Saturday for its upcoming production of “Stuart Little” as well as summer teen and junior companies. And coming up this month: Davidson College’s production “Kokoro” which opens Wednesday, Feb. 16, and Davidson Community Players’ “Masterpiece” which runs Feb. 27 to March 13.

This weekend in and around the area brings the opening of Warehouse PAC’s “Frozen,” a play about the disappearance of a 10-year-old girl. In Concord, the Charlotte Home and Landscape Show will showcase the latest trends for home and outdoor living spaces. And there’s plenty more going on as well, including lots of music. Elementary school students in grades 3 through 5 and their families are being invited to an afternoon of math and science activities and mime with Davidson College faculty and students on Saturday, Feb. 5.  Activities run 1-4 p.m. in the college’s Chambers Building.

The day is called MOSAIC, which is an acronym for math, originality, science, achievement, imagination and creativity, and will explore enrichment topics not found in ordinary elementary school classrooms.   Read the full story

Beyond the madness that is a Friday night at any American College, Davidson College’s campus welcomed a joint performance of Rupert T. Barber Jr.’s adaptation of “The Emperor’s New Clothes,” by the Davidson College Theater Department and Davidson Community Players’ Connie Co.

The play, which opened for a three-day run Friday night, featured some of the theater department’s rising talent, including freshmen Willa Folmar (His Empress), Nick McGuire (The Emperor), and Tatum Pottenger (Lord Chamberlain) as well as veterans senior Julie Brylawski (Buckalow) and Sophomore Amelia Lumpkin (Roscoe). Summit Coffee welcomes songwriters from around the area this weekend, beginning with a “Songwriters Showcase” on Thursday and a show by Asheville’s Kellin Watson Friday. Meanwhile, Davidson Community Players’ Connie Co. and Davidson College offer the children’s show The Emperor’s New Clothes Friday through Sunday. The Players also will have open auditions Sunday and Monday for Ragtime. On Sunday there’s an anti-bullying concert sponsored by a new organization called The Foundation for Respect Ability.  Saturday night also brings the Ada Jenkins Center’s annual ICE gala.

Davidson Community Players’ Connie Co. children’s theater and the Davidson College theater department present their annual joint children’s production, “The Emperor’s New Clothes,” next Friday to Sunday, Jan. 21-23. Also ahead on the local theater scene: Warehouse Performing Arts Center in Cornelius will stage Byrony Lavery’s Tony-nominated play “Frozen” Jan. 28-Feb. 13. And rehearsals are starting for Davidson Community Players’ February/March production of Meir Ribalow’s “Masterpiece.” Also, auditions are Jan. 23-24 for the Player’ June musical, “Ragtime.”
