davidson weekend calendarDavidson Community Players’ production of “Masterpiece” takes the stage this weekend. At Davidson College, the Wildcat baseball team will be playing three games against Furman. North Carolina’s Poet Laureate Cathy Smith Bowers speaking at the Charlotte Writer’s Club’s March meeting on Thursday. There’s a business expo that will showcase Lake Norman businesses, nonprofits and attractions all day Friday, and Davidson library has preschool and toddler story times on Friday as well.

On Saturday, there’s a Special Olympics interest meeting at Bailey Middle School for parents, athletes, coaches and volunteers interested in being involved. Sunday, Mt. Zion United Methodist Church hosts a solo piano concert featuring Katie Reimer.

March public events at Davidson College

Davidson Events bugLectures, readings, concerts, and stage performances art among the public events this month at Davidson College. The schedule includes a 42-year-retrospective exhibit of the art of Davidson art professor Herb Jackson, who is retiring at the end of the school year. Book fair, Poet Laureate, kid’s lit, and baseball

this week buttonA fund-raising book fair with visits by authors runs all this week at Davidson Day School. Meanwhile, Davidson public library is hosting a book discussion for adults about the children’s author Helen Oxbury on Monday afternoon. On Tuesday, Brian Balfour, the Budget & Tax Policy Analyst at the Civitas Institute, speaks in Mooresville about the future of the state government and the Davidson Town Board holds a “Commissioner Chat.” North Carolina’s Poet Laureate Cathy Smith Bowers will be speaking at the Thursday meeting of the Charlotte Writer’s Club. The play “Masterpiece” continues this weekend and there are three Davidson Wildcat baseball games against Furman.

davidson weekend calendar“Masterpiece,” a new play about a famous art forgery, debuts this weekend at Davidson Community Players, running Thursday-Sunday. Thursday night, there’s a Davidson College men’s basketball game against Elon. Friday night’s music includes Davidson Local at Summit Coffee,  and the Lake Norman Big Band Friday night at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church. Davidson’s baseball team faces Ohio Friday. On Saturday, the Davidson Farmer’s Market is open, there are two baseball games and a basketball game and a concert to benefit McKinney Academy. Davidson College Presbyterian Church hosts a chili cook-off, while soup is at the heart of a fund-raiser in Mooresville for Serenity House.

this week buttonThis week is full of Davidson College sports. Davidson College women’s basketball is playing Furman on Monday, the men play Elon Thursday and UNCG on Saturday, and the baseball team has games Friday Saturday. Meanwhile, former WNBA star Andrea Stinson hosts a basketball clinic Saturday at Bailey Road Park.

The gymnasts, jugglers, cyclists and tumblers of the Peking Acrobats are coming to Davidson College’s Duke Performance Hall on Tuesday. Thursday is the opening day of the play “Masterpiece,” the story of one of the most notorious art forgers. It plays Thursday-Sunday this week.

There’s a new driver “experience” event where new drivers experience the dangers of drinking or texting while driving by wearing special goggles while driving golf carts. Also, the Davidson Farmer’s Market is open on Saturday at 9 a.m. and a chili cook-ff is at 6 p.m. on Sunday at Davidson College Presbyterian Church to benefit the Mooresville Soup Kitchen.

‘Kokoro,’ Wildcat basketball, concerts, lectures

A busy week in and around the area starts off with a blood drive at DCPC,  a reading by novelist Cris Mazza at Davidson College, and this week buttonperformances by songwriter Dan Bern at Birdsnest on Monday.  There’s also a lecture on the “Sexual Politics of Meat” by feminist author Carol J. Adams. There will be a Q&A with Ms. Adams on Tuesday and a vegan cooking workshop on Wednesday.

Davidson College’s production of the play “Kokoro” runs Wednesday-Saturday at 7:30 p.m and Sunday at 2 p.m. And there are two home basketball games this week: the Davidson Wildcat men play Georgia Southern on Wednesday and the Wildcat women play Georgia Southern on Saturday.

There are a number of concerts  to attend at Davidson College including a performance by a string band, a Davidson College Symphony performance and another by the Rhodora Winds Quintet. Also, there are two fund-raisers: Dinner at Davidson for the Davidson Trust scholarship program and the Green Ball to benefit the Davidson Lands Conservancy.
