Davidson Community Players will hold auditions Monday and Tuesday night, April 11-12, for its July production of Ken Ludwig’s comedy “Moon Over Buffalo.” Actors and actresses over 18 are sought for eight roles in this raucous farce, about a dysfunctional theater troupe performing at the Erlander Theatre in Buffalo, New York, in 1953. The weekend in and around Davidson brings a long list of community events, from Friday night’s Davidson Gallery Crawl to the opening of the Davidson Farmer’s Market’s regular season debut Saturday morning, to the Lake Norman YMCA Family Fun Day Saturday. The “Miles for Marnie” duathlon, 5k and kids’ fun run is Saturday morning, and Davidson College’s baseball team hosts UNC Greensboro. Writer Bonita Jones Knott gives a spoken word performance at Warehouse Performing Arts Center. And “Stuart Little” continues this weekend at Armour Street Theater. Meanwhile, Saturday is also Reptile Day at Davidson College.

The Artist Series presents "Bus Stop" April 6.

Public art exhibits, music, and lectures are on the schedule during April at Davidson College. The calendar includes Reptile Day on April 9, an exhibition of artwork by senior studio art majors, an ethics lecture by Michael Marsicano, president and CEO of the Foundation for the Carolinas, and a performance of the play “Bus Stop” by Montana Repertory Theater. Knott

The Warehouse Performing Arts Center, at 9216-A Westmoreland Road, welcomes writer Bonita Jones Knott April 9 at 7 p.m. Ms. Knott will perform “This is Not a One Night Stand: Journeying with a God who is not on the run,” a collection of original poetry about the life experiences of women.

Ms. Knott is a recipient of the 2010 ATF Excellence in Arts Award.

Opens Saturday at Armour Street Theater.

Davidson College’s production of “Into the Woods” has its final performances this weekend, so catch it while you can. Davidson Community Players Connie Co. opens “Stuart Little” on Saturday.  Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools are closed on Friday for a teacher workday. Cornelius Arts Center hosts a Camp Crawl Saturday previewing its summer art camps, and they’ll be giving away  prizes. Gethsemane Baptist Church is celebrating its 106th Birthday, celebrating it during the Sunday 10 a.m. worship service and musician Joshua Panda will be playing at the Birdsnest on Sunday. Also, Davidson United Methodist Church hosts an egg hunt Sunday afternoon at Lake Norman YMCA waterfront.

This week is full of theatrical productions and films. “Stuart Little” starts this weekend at Armour Street Theater, joining Davidson College’s “Into the Woods” on the local playbill. There’s also a play titled “Vesta” from Hospice & Palliative Care Charlotte Region that explores the emotions and decisions a family must face through the end of a grandmother’s life. The movies “Race to Nowhere” and “Play Again,” about children and how today’s culture affects them, are both being screened on Tuesday. The week’s highlight may be Wednesday’s concert at St. Alban’s Episcopal Church by Choir of Christ Church Cathedral Oxford. And there’s a banjo music concert at Davidson College on Sunday. There’s also an early Easter egg hunt on Sunday at the Lake Norman YMCA.
