MOORESVILLE – The Cockman Family from Sherrills Ford will visit downtown Mooresville this Sunday at 4 p.m. to help celebrate the holidays with a concert of gospel Christmas music.

The band includes four brothers, a sister, and their dad. They’re known for their bluegrass gospel style and their original arrangements of old gospel tunes. They’ve made nine albums, their newest being “It Was All About Love” in 2009. Read the full story

Happenings in and around Davidson this weekend range from Thursday night’s meeting at Town Hall about improving Main Street to the annual “Blackout Belk” basketball game Saturday (Davidson men vs. Charlotte) to The Beggar Boys’ annual Celtic Christmas concert at St. Alban’s Sunday. The new W.A. Hough High School will be formally dedicated in a ceremony Friday morning, while middle schoolers at Community School of Davidson host an alternative gift fair Friday to benefit local nonprofits.

Christmas in Davidson is the headline act in a weekend full of winter treats in and around town. The downtown festival runs Thursday through Saturday nights from 6-9. Davidson’s women’s basketball team is home Saturday against Radford. The Lake Norman YMCA hosts its annual breakfast with Santa on Saturday morning, while Davidson College hosts a residency by jazz pianist Harry Pickens, concluding with a free Saturday night concert. Saturday also brings the North Mecklenburg Christmas Parade. On Sunday, Armin’s Catering hosts an open house at historic Beaver Dam, off Davidson-Concord Road, while Davidson College’s annual Christmas Vespers Concert is Sunday night.
