Can your sweater top these gems? Enter Saturday's contest.

Christmas in Davidson is nearly upon us, and besides taking in the atmosphere with a stroll on Main Street, you’ve got several ways to get even more involved.  Organizers have planned an Ugly Sweater Contest Saturday night, you can enter your pooch in the popular Doggie Fashion Show on Friday, or purchase a Christmas in Davidson ornament. Another new feature this year will be a skating rink at South Main Square, open extended hours all three days. Meanwhile, Town Hall is hoping to bolster the subscribers to its eCrier email lists with a prize drawing for ornaments or tickets for skating or carriage rides.  Details below.

The tea will run 2 to 5 p.m., with tea, apple cider, sandwiches, and hors d’oeuvres by Armin’s Catering, which manages Beaver Dam for the town.

Davidson Lands Conservancy’s Run for Green and Green Day Festival will be Saturday morning in downtown Davidson. Are you running? Meanwhile, have you seen Davidson Community Players’ production of “The Guys” yet? Anne Nelson’s play about healing after 9/11 in New York City concludes its run this weekend at Armour Street Theatre.

Feeling more like catching some good local music? Davidson’s Summit Coffee will hold its Songwriters Showcase Thursday night, while the Mooresville law firm of Homesley and Wingo will host the Blues and Burritos benefit Saturday evening. Also Saturday, Davidson Local plays a benefit for DavidsonNews.net and CorneliusNews.net at Summit. An estimated 356 people young and old, from Davidson and beyond, swarmed the Davidson Village Green Saturday to set an (unofficial) Guinness Book of World Records mark for the most people bouncing paddle balls at one time. Here’s a 4-minute video of the record, produced by DavidsonNews.net.

Summer has been good, but now it’s officially over for all the area schools. For our final article in this series, we decided to visit the Davidson Farmers Market, where Emma is a volunteer. On a recent Saturday, we checked out all the produce as the seasons change from summer to fall. We hope you had a great summer and enjoy a cooler fall!
