The annual Lake Norman Family YMCA Triathlon is this weekend, this year expanded to 2 days, with experts competing Saturday and the rest of the field Sunday. Our Weekend Calendar also has a variety of other events in and around Davidson, from a fund-raising dinner tonight at Toast Cafe for the Autism Society of NC to a Sunday “End of Summer” party at Summit Coffee. There’s a free concert tonight at Mooresville Town Hall with Tsunami Wave Riders. And don’t forget Saturday’s free bluegrass concert at Cornelius Presbyterian Church, with local favorites Davidson Express.

Because of increasing popularity and demand, the Lake Norman YMCA’s annual triathlon is now a two-day event. On Saturday, Aug. 22, and Sunday, Aug. 23, more than 1,200 athletes from around the Charlotte area and as far as Washington state will assemble in Cornelius to swim, bike and run their way through the Lake Norman area. Is it July already? This week brings summer into full swing, with a pair of big Independence Day celebrations. The Town of Davidson won’t have fireworks at its community gathering this year, so if you’re in the mood for some sparks, head to Lowe’s YMCA in Mooresville on Friday, July 3. Meanwhile, Davidson’s town celebration on July 4 will move to the Village Green this year, with music by Rough Draft and children’s activities. And the week begins tonight with a Planning Board meeting tonight, where the discussion will focus on the ongoing development of a new townwide Comprehensive Plan.
