The events just keep coming at Historic Rural Hill in Huntersville. On Saturday evening, July 2, the center hosts the 2nd annual Soul Food Festival, an evening of soul food and soul music. Organizers describe it as “an inviting event that highlights the aroma of traditional soul food cooking in the air while bringing together families & friends in an outdoor social setting for a day of reunion, information and live national award winning entertainment.”
Performers include Cameo, Barkays, After 7, Dazz Band, SWV, and Confunkshun. Read the full story

Eat out at select restaurants during the Autism Aware Fare on Tuesday and have some of your money go to the Autism Society of North Carolina, Mecklenburg County Chapter. On Friday, Davidson College hosts a traditional southern dinner
and book signing with Humpy Wheeler, former president and general manager of Lowe’s Motor Speedway. Fund-raisers this week include the Davidson Lands Conservancy’s “Toast the Earth” event Friday, and Ada Jenkins Center’s annual “Fire” 5k race and a BBQ fund-raiser on Saturday. Davidson’s annual Art on the Green festival is Saturday and Sunday, while the Seicento String Band plays a concert called “Vivaldi: The Storm” on historical instruments on Sunday.

A networking group for people in the renewable energy field called Green Drinks Charlotte is coming to Davidson at the end of this month. Organizers say the gatherings are meet-ups for people who work in the renewable energy, green and clean tech.

Davidson Parks & Recreation has openings for a variety of youth summer camps. The department has about five tickets left in a local trip to see the hit musical “Wicked” in Charlotte on June 1.
