Critically-acclaimed indie rock act Passion Pit will appear at Davidson College on Sunday, March 24.
The college’s Union Board Concerts Committee on Friday announced the concert, which will be held in the college’s Belk Arena. Doors open at 6pm, with opening acts (to be announced) at 7pm. Read the full story

Gigi Dover and the Big Love kick off a new First Friday concert series at Summit Coffee in Davidson.
This weekend will be a busy one, with a Zombie Walk in downtown Davidson Saturday to mark the opening of the film “Warm Bodies,” Lunar New Year fireworks at Davidson College, and the Davidson Housing Coalition’s annual Souper Bowl soup cook-off. The North Meck Rotary hosts its annual pancake breakfast on Saturday in Cornelius, while there’s another winter Davidson Farmer’s Market Saturday morning as well. The Davidson Wildcats have a home basketball game Thursday night against Samford and there’s live music at venues around the area. Read on for those events and more.

Davidson College’s Asian Cultural Awareness Association welcomes the Year of the Snake this Saturday evening, Feb. 2, with a Lunar New Year party and fireworks.
The party runs from 5-8pm at the Alvarez College Union atrium, with food, games, and performances of Asian traditional arts. Then at 8pm, the crowd moves to the Chambers Building lawn for the annual fireworks display.

This year’s actual Lunar New Year is Saturday, Feb. 10. In Asian countries from China to Vietnam to Malaysia, it’s the most important holiday of the year.

Our community calendar this week is packed with concerts, meetings, sports events and other activities around the area. Saturday brings the annual Souper Bowl soup cook-off among local restaurants, a fundraiser for Davidson Housing Coalition’s HAMMERS emergency home repairs program. There’s live music at many local venues, and at Davidson College, where the Davidson Jazz Ensemble plays a concert with percussionist Adam Snow that was rescheduled from last week. The Davidson Farmer’s Market is back on Saturday morning, 9 to noon, and Our Town Cinemas is hosting a “Zombie Walk” on Saturday afternoon. Read on for those events and more. Also, Saturday is the annual fund-raising pancake breakfast of the North Mecklenburg Rotary.
