Our Events Calendar this week brings everything from festivals to foot races and Holocaust remembrances to theatrical performances. Highlights include screenings of the climbing documentary “Reel Rock 8″ and the Japanese film “Kikujiro.” On stage, student directed one-act plays are at Davidson College Monday and Tuesday, while Warehouse Performing Arts Center in Cornelius continues the hilarious run of “Life As We Know It.” Saturday brings Davidson Town Day, the annual festival in downtown Davidson with live music, a road race (this year including a half marathon). The “School of Rock Fun Fest” is Saturday afternoon at Bailey Road Park in Cornelius.  And Saturday also marks the grand opening for the mixed-use LangTree Lake Norman development off I-77 Exit 31. The non-profit Community Arts Project will host its seventh annual Taste of Art Event inside the Fresh Market Store in Cornelius on Thursday, May 15, from 8 to 10pm. The store is closed to the public during this time as guests enjoy an evening including hors d’oeuvres provided by the Fresh Market and a wine tasting with one-ounce pours of more than 30 different wines. Historic Rural Hill is located at 4431 Neck Road in Huntersville

Well, if the last two weekends are any indication, this area’s going to the dogs. But that’s not a bad thing. Once again, canines take center stage at Historic Rural Hill in Huntersville for the 9th annual Bark in the Park Top Dog Festival. Sponsored in part by Purina and Harris Teeter, the event presents an entire day’s worth of activities and contests such as Cutest Puppy and Best Costume sure to amuse dogs and owners alike. The action starts at 10am with the last stage scheduled at 3:45pm.

Our weekend calendar in the Lake Norman area has it all – from public meetings and networking opportunities to arts festivals and theater.

Bella Love Inc. continues to stir up the cultural scene in downtown Cornelius this week, with an Improv Comedy Night, the first of what organizers hope will be a regular series. Thursday night’s show runs 7:30 to 11pm at Kadi Fit in the Oak Street Mill, featuring several improv groups from around the region – from Charlotte to Salisbury. Read the full story

The quirks and craziness of contemporary life are the fodder for theatrical fun in “Life As We Know It,” a 90-minute show of five short comedies and a monologue written by North Carolina playwright Elaine Alexander.  The show takes a satiric swipe at cell phone addiction, helicopter parenting and youth obsession among other modern day maladies.

• Runs April 24 to May 4, Thursdays to Saturdays at 8pm, Sundays at 2pm.
