This weekend, our community features several live music performances and visual arts events, as well more races. This Friday a reception will be held in the Davidson Town Hall for an exhibit of photographs by digital photo artist PK Donson of Davidson, The Birdsnest will host live music featuring Mark Mandeville & Raianne Richards, and Hough High School soccer takes on their playoff rival Lake Norman in the state 4A playoffs. This Saturday starts at 7:30am with the Kiwanis 5k at Rural Hill and it’s  “Pay What You Wish Day” at Charlotte’s Levine Museums to celebrate Art Museum Day 2013. Saturday also brings the annual Race City Festival in downtown

Mooresville, live music at Summit Coffee featuring Billy Jones and friends, a pair of blood drives at Greater Vision United Methodist Church and The Grande Theatre Amstar, and the Tread The Thread Twilight 5k.

Two weeks have passed since we brought home our new addition and he is growing by leaps and bounds. Part Shar Pei, part Lab, according to paperwork from the Cornelius Animal Shelter, Scout has wasted no time fitting right into our family. Truthfully, he’s more part “Anybody’s Guess” based on the number of suggestions we’ve received of various breeds from friends and acquaintances, who never miss an opportunity to ask “What is he?” Read the full story

The EnergyExplorium at McGuire Nuclear Station will host the annual Tri-County Business After Hours on Thursday, May 16 from 5 to 7pm. Peter Rowan is among the headliners at the NC Brewers & Music Festival at Rural Hill.

This weekend the Lake Norman area  is taking advantage of the spring weather by hosting numerous festivals, including several events featuring local food and beverages, and numerous sporting events. Friday afternoon marks the beginning of the two-day Jiggy with the Piggy Barbecue Challenge in Kannapolis, and local high school sports teams have playoffs. Saturday morning kicks off with the Jetton Park Traithlon and the Run Wild 5K & Fun Run. The Davidson Farmer’s Market returns on Saturday, hosting its annual Strawberry Shortcake Fundraiser and the Eden Street Market, featuring fresh seafood and crafts, will have its grand opening.

The Jetton Park Triathlon and two other road races, girls’ high school soccer playoffs and Strawberry Shortcake Day at the Davidson Farmer’s Market are among the many area events on the region’s calendar this week. The Hello Huntersville Festival is scheduled in downtown Huntersville, and the Lake Norman Sail & Power Squadron plans a vessel safety check this weekend in Sherrill’s Ford. Also this weekend, the Chuckleheads bring their improvisational comedy back to the Warehouse Performing Arts Center in Cornelius. And this past weekend’s rained-out Concert on the Green in downtown Davidson with the reggae band The Dickens has been rescheduled to Sunday.
