The Community Arts Project hosts its annual Have a Heart Valentine’s Party Saturday, Feb. 4 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Cornelius Arts Center, 19725 Oak Street.
The free event includes card making and other crafts for all ages, with a suggested donation of $5 to benefit CAP and the Buddy Kemp Caring House in Charlotte.

The Community Arts Project, in partnership with the Community School of Davidson High School’s wood shop, offers a new fall session of adult woodturning classes for all skill levels. And interested adults can learn more at an open house Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the High School, 404 Armour St. in Davidson.

Bonita Jones Knott
Bonita Jones Knott, “The Bare Foot Poet,” kicks off her shoes this week for her second performance at the Warehouse Performing Arts Center. Following a successful one-woman show in April, “This is not a one night stand: Journeying with a God who is not on the run,” Ms. Knott this week explores the themes of rejection and healing.
She performs a series of eleven poems in her show, entitled, “From the thorn of rejection to the rose of restoration.” Read the full story

Davidson Community Players this weekend finishes its run of “Ragtime,” a musical set in early 1900s America amid racial and ethnic tensions and the rise of the syncopated, swinging musical genre of the same name.
For musicians, ragtime songs are simultaneously fun and challenging to play, as the right hand rarely knows what the left is doing. The music is a continuous back-and-forth between the two hands, replacing beats and trading power in a way that can be playful and flirtatious, or dramatic and contentious. Read the full story
