Alex Porter dies at 75; Davidson grad, Wall St. hedge fund pioneer - Tue, 22 Apr 2014
Services are planned Saturday for A. Alex Porter, who died Friday, April 18, 2014, at age 75. The cause was cancer, according to his sister, Sarah Porter Boehmler. Porter was a Charlotte native and 1960 Davidson College graduate who went on to become a member of the Wall Street generation that popularized the hedge fund. He was himself a successful practitioner of that now-familiar investing craft, founding the New York-based firm that later became Amici Capital. Read his full obituary on our OBITUARIES page

Profits rise at Aquesta on expanded lending and insurance growth - Mon, 21 Apr 2014
Cornelius-based Aquesta Financial Holdings Inc., the new holding company that includes Aquesta Bank, said Monday its profit rose to $428,000, or 17 cents a share, in the first three months of 2014. That was up 23 percent from $347,000, or 14 cents a share a year ago. The company attributed the gains to loan growth and strong earnings at its Aquesta Insurance unit.
