This week, we steered our bikes to two local consignment shops, Brand Name Consignment in downtown Cornelius and New To You, in Davidson’s South Main Square. We discovered that both shops sell brand-name clothes in new or practically new condition, and have a very different feel from a thrift store like Goodwill or Salvation Army. However, the prices are definitely lower than at the original store, so if you are looking to enjoy some summer shopping while also spending less, be sure to check out these two locations. This week, we got on our bicycles and headed down to the area of Davidson off I-77 Exit 30. Our first stop was the new nature trail and canoe/kayak launch behind Davidson Day School. You may have heard that it was opening, but have you ever actually gone there? If not, it’s worth a trip. It was hot, so we also stopped at the air-conditioned Rushco Davidson Market and explored what it has to offer. If you’re looking to fill an afternoon, head down to  the Lake Davidson Nature Preserve, go canoeing or kayaking if you have a boat, and make sure to stop for some refreshment on your way home. This week, we decided to walk to some places in Davidson that are a bit out of the way, and less well-known. We wrote a three-question Davidson Trivia quiz about the places we ended up, where we saw gnomes, historic graves and sculpture. If you know about all these, great! With summer comes freedom from school work and relaxation, but it’s a fine line between relaxing and sitting around bored. Looking for something to do with those spare moments to keep yourself from going crazy? As two teenagers, we are always looking for fun things to do in an afternoon. Something not too expensive, not too complicated, close to home, and something we haven’t done before. That’s the point of our new column – Summer Scoop – which will run Thursdays in The Guide this summer. It’s a busy weekend in and around Davidson, with visual arts events, sports, live music, and public meetings. The 2nd Shalom Lake Norman Jewish Festival is Sunday at Ramsey Creek Park. The weekend kicks off Thursday night with an opening reception and gallery talk for Davidson College’s annual faculty art show, at the Belk Visual Arts Center. Then on Friday, downtown Concord hosts an “Art Walk,” including the Galleries in Cabarrus County’s historic courthouse, where two new exhibits will open.
