LEED home tour, hoop and New Year’s events

davidson weekend calendarDavidson men’s and women’s basketball dominates the weekend, but that’s not the only way to celebrate the end of the year in Davidson. Billy Jones & the Pocket are playing at Summit Coffee on Thursday. There’s a teen New Year’s eve party at the Davidson public library and many restaurants have New Year’s Eve events and specials that are listed on our Food & Dining page.

Also, Rural Hill is having a traditional 5k hike and Hogmanay celebration at  their annual First Footin’ event. Apart from the New Year festivities, there’s an open house at the second LEED-certified “green” house in Davidson built by John Marshall Custom Homes. In addition to the movies that are now playing at Our Town Cinemas, ‘Black Swan’ opens on Friday starting at 1:40 p.m.

The week starts off slow for local events, but gets busy by the weekend. Wildcat basketball fans can watch the Davidson men play St. Joseph’s College on Thursday and the women play Princeton on Wednesday and UNCG on Friday. Davidson public library is offering a couple activities for younger residents: a Spanish class for preschoolers and a teen New Year’s Eve party. And on New Year’s Day Saturday, Rural Hill brings in the new year with its annual 5k hike and Hogmanay celebration.

These events and more below, or in our day-by-day calendar at right. Also at right on this page, see our movie listings for Our Town Cinemas, where “Black Swan” opens on Friday, joining “Little Fockers,” “True Grit,” “How Do You Know,” and “Yogi Bear.”

Christmas, storytime, church services for families

davidson weekend calendarThis weekend’s main event is Christmas and there’s still time to plan something to do with your relatives before they leave town. Try taking the kids to storytime at Main Street Books or stopping by Summit Coffee for some hot drinks.

Churches around the area are offering Christmas Eve services at different times to fit people’s schedules. There are early services directed towards families with children and some churches even offer child care.

A movie at Our Town Cinemas might be a nice reprieve from the holiday hustle and bustle where “Little Fockers,” “True Grit,” “How Do You Know,” and “Yogi Bear” are playing.

These events and more below, or in our day-by-day calendar at right.

Whatever you decide to do, we at Davidsonnews.net hope you have a safe and happy holiday.
