Opens Saturday at Armour Street Theater.

Davidson College’s production of “Into the Woods” has its final performances this weekend, so catch it while you can. Davidson Community Players Connie Co. opens “Stuart Little” on Saturday.  Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools are closed on Friday for a teacher workday. Cornelius Arts Center hosts a Camp Crawl Saturday previewing its summer art camps, and they’ll be giving away  prizes. Gethsemane Baptist Church is celebrating its 106th Birthday, celebrating it during the Sunday 10 a.m. worship service and musician Joshua Panda will be playing at the Birdsnest on Sunday. Also, Davidson United Methodist Church hosts an egg hunt Sunday afternoon at Lake Norman YMCA waterfront.

Choir of Christ Church Oxford Wednesday at St. Alban's

This week is full of theatrical productions and films. “Stuart Little” starts this weekend at Armour Street Theater, joining Davidson College’s “Into the Woods” on the local playbill. There’s also a play titled “Vesta” from Hospice & Palliative Care Charlotte Region that explores the emotions and decisions a family must face through the end of a grandmother’s life. The movies “Race to Nowhere” and “Play Again,” about children and how today’s culture affects them, are both being screened on Tuesday. The week’s highlight may be Wednesday’s concert at St. Alban’s Episcopal Church by Choir of Christ Church Cathedral Oxford. And there’s a banjo music concert at Davidson College on Sunday. There’s also an early Easter egg hunt on Sunday at the Lake Norman YMCA.

Try out the new Lake Davidson canoe launch Saturday at Davidson Lands Conservancy's Paddlefest, co-sponsored by Davidson Outdoors.

The folk music group Davidson Local plays Friday night at Summit Coffee. Davidson Farmer’s Market is open and there’s a 5k and kids’ fun run in Huntersville Saturday to help fund special needs activities at participating schools. Later on that day, Davidson Lands Conservancy, Davidson Outdoors and REI host Paddlefest, an afternoon of activities to celebrate the opening of the new canoe/kayak launch on Lake Davidson. Sunday, St. Alban’s Episcopal Church’s arts and spirituality program presents artist Tom Shulz discussing Michelangelo’s famous sculpture “The Pieta.”

Starting off the week, the Democrats of Precinct 206 are meeting again Monday night to get a quorum of members to elect officers. Also Monday, the Future of the Library Task Force presents its recommendations to the county commission and library board. On Tuesday, Poet and novelist Joseph Bathanti, professor of English at Appalachian State University, will be reading from his work. Cynthia Lawing and Ruskin Cooper will perform Wednesday at this week’s Davidson Music Department Faculty Recital. There’s another concert on Thursday, this time at Summit Coffee where Shantell Ogden from Nashville, Charlotte songwriter Steve Simpson and host Rob McHale will be performing. The Davidson College theater and music departments will join forces to present “Into the Woods,” starting Friday and ending April 2.

It’s St. Patrick’s Day weekend and we have a few events listed to kick start your celebration. Galway Hooker is hosting its 8th annual St. Patrick’s Day celebration. All day they will have Irish festivities and there’s no cover charge. Restaurant X will be serving traditional Irish food while diners are entertained by Irish dancers. Summit Coffee is hosting music by Rusty Knox on Thursday, The Houston Brothers on Friday and the Dennis Currier Trio on Saturday. Lake Norman High School students are putting on the classic play “The Sound of Music.” End the weekend with a trip to the Mint Museum where families from Davidson, Huntersville and Cornelius get a discount to take part in family-friendly activities.

The week starts off with a three-day conference on reformed theology and ethics that will be held at Davidson College and Davidson College Presbyterian Church. There will be worship services and programs on various topics throughout the conference. There are a number of Davidson College lectures this week, subjects include democracy, biology, environmental politics and more. Davidson College Presbyterian Church’s season of Organ at Davidson will come to a close with a performance by organist Marek Kucklicki. Artist Herb Jackson and author Alan Michael Parker have joined together to present a program Thursday called “10 Days,” with images by Jackson and poems by Parker. Lake Norman High School will present “The Sound of Music” this weekend.
