On Thursday evening members of Davidson Presbyterian Church and the Beloved Community Book Club, a group made up of members of DPC and DCPC, hosted pastor and first-time author Alyce Spells Kelly to discuss her recently released book, “The Golden Boom.” Kelly’s inspiration for the book was to provide “a message of hope and promise to the Baby Boomer generation.”

A native of Cleveland, Kelly now lives in North Carolina and has served in various ministries for the past 25 years. She talked about how she saw this generation as one that still had contributions to make in the Kingdom of God. “This book is written particularly for those who have been holding on to hope without any indication that their hope will be fulfilled,” she said. Her response: “Don’t quit, don’t give up. What is God calling you to do?”

After her talk Kelly answered questions from the audience and then had a book signing.

TUESDAY, JAN. 27, 6:30pm, Davidson College Alvarez College Union 900 Room – The annual Davidson Reads program focuses on “The Politics of Love in Syria: Young Adult Novels.” Speakers included Partin Assistant Professor of Arab Studies Rebecca Joubin and Gwendolyn Heasley ’05, author of three young adult novels and a digital novella, “The Art of Goodbye.” Joubin’s current book, “The Politics of Love: Sexuality, Gender, and Marriage in Syrian Television Drama,” is about musalsalat—Arab television dramas or soap operas.
