Ariel String Quartet plays Sunday, Nov. 17, at Davidson College.

The 2013-14 Concert Series season welcomes the young and distinguished Ariel String Quartet to Davidson’s campus on Sunday, Nov. 17, at 3pm in Tyler-Tallman Hall. Characterized by its youth, brilliant playing, and soulful interpretations, the Ariel Quartet has quickly earned a glowing international reputation.

Originally formed in Israel in 2004, violinists Alexandra Kazovsky and Gershon Gechikov, violist Jan Grüning, and cellist Amit Even-Tov moved to the United States in 2004 to continue their professional studies as a quartet. In January 2012 the Quartet was named quartet-in-residence at the University of Cincinnati’s College-Conservatory of Music, an astonishing accomplishment for such a young ensemble and a testament to the Ariel’s skill and dedication to their craft.

The Ariel Quartet has performed in Israel, Europe, and North America, including at such venues as the Louvre in Paris, Kaisersaal in Frankfurt, Jordan Hall in Boston, and the Washington Performing Arts Society, the Corcoran Gallery, and the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. The quartet’s program here at Davidson will feature works by Haydn, Schulhoff, and Beethoven.

• Also on Saturday, local band Chasing Pedestrians plays another gig at Carrburritos in Davidson, at 9pm. And 10 percent of proceeds benefit Ada Jenkins Center.
• The Birds Nest will host musicians Claudine Langille and Triona on Sunday, Nov. 17 from 1-3pm. The music studio and shop is at 102B N. Main St., in downtown Davidson. Admission is $16.
• The Lake Norman Big Band puts on its monthly concert at the Finish Line Restaurant at
• George Pappas’ Victory Lanes in Mooresville, Monday, Nov. 18, from 7-9pm. The 20 member ensemble is made up of Lake Norman area musicians, and is feature at events across the region.
