Move over Harry Connick Jr.: A new star is shining on the Davidson Community Players’ stage this summer. From his opening note in, “A New Town is a Blue Town,” audiences this month are being treated to the beautiful, strong voice of Bill Caswell. He has the lead role of Sid Sorokin, the newly hired superintendant of the Sleep-Tite pajama factory Davidson Community Players’ production of “The Pajama Game.” Read the full story

Mooresville Artist Guild has put out a call for entries to its 2013 Photography Show, which will run July 9-26 at the Historic Depot Gallery in downtown Mooresville. This year’s judge will be by Byron Baldwin, a college and high school photography teacher for 35 years and a founding member of The Light Factory in Charlotte. Read the full story

Robert Bush

Robert Bush has been named as interim president of the Arts & Science Council (ASC), the region’s non-profit arts and cultural organization. He’s currently ASC’s senior vice president and chief innovation officer, and will take on the new job July 1.

Bush replaces Scott Provancher, who announced last month that he would step down June 30 to start his own arts consulting business in Charlotte and Cincinnati.  Provancher had been with the ASC since 2009. Read the full story

Davidson Community Players’ first big summer production,  the Tony Award winning musical “The Pajama Game,” opens Thursday, and runs through June 29 at Davidson College’s Duke Family Performance Hall. This musical comedy features many familiar tunes including “Steam Heat,” “Hey There” and “Hernando’s Hideaway.”

Based on the novel “7 ½ cents” by Richard Bissell, it features a score by Richard Adler and Jerry Ross. Amid labor strife in a pajama factory, love blossoms between Babe, the grievance committee head, and Sid, the new factory superintendent.
