Davidson’s theatre offerings have blossomed since their earliest days in the 19th century, when students were forced to perform Shakespeare plays off campus because the college’s charter did not condone drama.  Professor of English Edward Erwin offered one of the college’s first formal theatre outlets for students with the creation of the Dramatic Club in 1920, and English professors John Sneden and Charles Goodykoontz cultivated drama in Davidson’s curriculum and community during the early 1960s. Awadagin Pratt

Davidson College’s 2013-14 Concert Series season continues this Saturday, Nov. 2, with a performance by accomplished concert pianist Awadagin Pratt. Meanwhile, organ fans will get a multi-performer treat on Nov. 12 with Organ Plus! And electric violinist Mark Wood will be back in the area next week for a workshop and performance with local high school students, as part of his Electrify Your Strings, and a special appearance at local shop Davidson Violins. Paintings by Katie Wood McCloy are on display through Oct. 31 at Davidson Town Hall.

The Davidson Town Hall Atrium Gallery this month hosts an exhibit of paintings by Katie Wood McCloy, an artist who lives at The Pines at Davidson.  McCloy paints a variety of subjects in watercolors, from landscapes to still lifes. Read the full story

In October, math communities around the world celebrate the playfulness of Martin Gardner, who had an extraordinary impact infusing fun into mathematics.  It’s been said that Gardner turned thousands of children into mathematicians and thousands of mathematicians into children.  

Davidson College joins in again this year with its own Celebration of Mind, a free program for young and old. It’s on Thursday, Oct. 24, from 6-8pm, in Hance Auditorium (under the dome in the Chambers Building).
