Our calendar this weekend has a lot to choose from, between Mecklenburg County’s Bark in the Park for dog lovers at Rural Hill, “A Bear Called Paddington” and “Mr. Marmalade” on local stages, and Strawberry Shortcake Day at the Davidson Farmer’s Market. Michael Reno Harrell plays an outdoor concert Sunday at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church. And Davidson College basketball players and alumni host BUZZKILL,a fundraising 3-on-3 tourney and other events to fight malaria in Africa.
Also, two rescheduling announcements: The Jazz Combo and Sax Quartet concert originally scheduled at Davidson College Thursday night has been rescheduled to Sunday, May 6, because of a conflict at the college. And the Young Life Mini-Golf Mania tournament at Lake Norman Mini-Golf that was rained out last weekend is back on – this Sunday. The Charlotte Asian Festival returns to Ramsey Creek Park in Cornelius on May 5. The one-day festival entertains visitors with Asian food, performances, Dragon Boat races, Asian cultural exhibits and the annual Miss Asian Festival Scholarship competition. Read the full story

Davidson’s Art on the Green festival is back for another year, running Saturday and Sunday in downtown Davidson. This weekend also brings the season’s first Concert of the Green, a performance by the Davidson College Symphony and Jazz Ensemble on Sunday. The Jazz Ensemble also plays Friday, alongside Latin jazz composer arranger Bernardo Hernandez. The region’s Jewish community gathers at Davidson College Thursday night for Yom HaShoah, a Holocaust Remembrance ceremony. In Huntersville, get on your kilt for the 19th annual Rural Hill Scottish Festival and Loch Norman Highland Games. Saturday morning brings Earth Day activities in Cornelius and around Lake Norman, there’s a breakfast at Davidson Presbyterian Church and the Davidson Farmer’s Market is open until noon.
