HUNTERSVILLE – Men in kilts, marching pipe bands, amateur and professional athletic competitions, country dancing and a historic encampment are on the schedule this weekend at the 18th Annual Rural Hill Scottish Festival and Loch Norman Highland Games. The fun begins Friday and continues through Sunday at Rural Hill off Neck Road.

The W.A. Hough High School Photography Club hosted an exhibit at the Carolina Art Garden gallery, at Oak Street Mill, 19725 Oak St., Tuesday night to benefit the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. The student photographers donated all proceeds from photograph sales to the foundation. Read the full story

Davidson Community Players will hold auditions Monday and Tuesday night, April 11-12, for its July production of Ken Ludwig’s comedy “Moon Over Buffalo.” Actors and actresses over 18 are sought for eight roles in this raucous farce, about a dysfunctional theater troupe performing at the Erlander Theatre in Buffalo, New York, in 1953. In May 1971, Davidson Mayor Tom Sadler issued a proclamation designating May 8 through 15 of that year “Clean Up” week and May 15 as a culminating event: Town Day, the first on record.
The reason for the designation, said Mayor Sadler, was to support the efforts of the Davidson Community Council, a group of concerned citizens who spearheaded an effort to clean up trash and debris around town, improve the aesthetic appearance of Davidson and promote a sense of self-betterment and closer ties among all citizens.
This year, in honor of its 40th anniversary, Davidson’s popular annual Town Day celebration is returning to those roots. Read the full story
