A $20,000 grant from the Duke Energy Foundation to Charlotte Teachers Institute (CTI) will help pay for an energy-related seminar for Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools (CMS) teachers as well as two public events in the Lake Norman area this fall. One will focus on “The Nature of Energy” while the second will explore the changing social and physical landscape of Lake Norman. Read the full story

The Arts & Science Council on Tuesday announced an initial round of grants totaling $6.6 million across the region. The grants include money to help pay for a new public art sculpture next to Davidson Town Hall, arts education programs in Cornelius and the Hello Huntersville Music & Arts Festival.
Other grants went to arts and cultural organizations including Carolina Raptor Center, Davidson College, and North Mecklenburg Community Chorus; school programs; theater groups including Warehouse Performing Arts Center in Cornelius and Davidson Community Players; and events such as the Dragon Boat/Asian Festival at Ramsey Creek Park in Cornelius, and Davidson’s April Is for Arts festival.
In a press release, the ASC said it fell short of its fundraising goal this year, and focused initial funding on established organizations.

CHARLOTTE – The Arts & Science Council (ASC) will present “Imagine 2025: Share the Vision,” a creative and interactive arts event, featuring speakers in the fields of art, education, data, energy, design and health services. The event will be held Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2014, from 9am – 4pm in the Booth Playhouse at Blumenthal Performing Arts Center. Tickets are $25 and go on sale Aug. 1 at CarolinaTix.org. Mooresville-based artist Franklin Kernes is featured in the Davidson Town Hall’s second summer 2014 exhibit, with “Between the Lines,” a series of paintings influenced by street and abstract artists. Meanwhile, Cornelius Arts Center has works by Adam McGalliard in a show titled “Introjection,” and the center is inviting submissions of handmade art teacups for an upcoming show. Read the full story
