The election season is fast approaching, and a pair of candidate forums are being held in Davidson this week. On Tuesday night, St. Alban’s Episcopal Church in Davidson – with sponsorship from DavidsonNews.net – will host a forum for 
candidates for the Davidson Town Board and mayor, while on Sunday at Davidson College, Davidson mayoral candidates John Woods and Vince Winegardner will face off in a Q&A session and roundtable.
And while we’re talking about politics, the Cornelius Town Board of Commissioners will also hold its monthly meeting on Monday night, and the Mecklenburg County Board of Commissioners meet Tuesday night in Charlotte. Davidson Elementary School’s Parent-Teacher Organization will hold its first major fundraising event of the new school year on Friday – the annual Family Bingo Night – with bingo, prizes and pizza. On Sunday afternoon, Davidson author Tony Abbott reads from his new book of poetry “If Words Could Save Us” at Davidson College. This week in Davidson, students meet at the Village Green to “go green” and walk to school Wednesday in observance of International Walk to School Day. Also this week, the Davidson Community Players opens its two-week run of “Love Letters,” a character study based on the lifetime exchange of letters of two people who grow from friends into lovers, Thursday night at the Armour Street Theatre. And for those interested in the upcoming vote, Stand Up N.C. will hold a forum with speakers N.C. Rep. Mike Hager and Dan Forest, a candidate for lieutenant governor, and the Old Fashioned Cornelius Barbecue and Candidates forum, with local candidates from Cornelius and Huntersville, at the Cornelius Town Hall on Thursday. Also Thursday, Hough High’s football team plays at West Charlotte High, while Davidson College’s football team hosts Marist in a Pioneer League game Saturday afternoon at Richardson Stadium.

Local band Too Wet to Plow plays old time string music Saturday at Summit Coffee.

One of the famed Second City’s touring comedy and improv troupes will perform at Davidson College at 8 p.m. Friday night as part of the college’s Artist Series. The Second City performance — a one-day-only show — is among the variety of things to do for residents this weekend in Davidson and surrounding communities.
Summit Coffee in Davidson will host live music performances Thursday through Saturday evenings, including a rare appearance by Too Wet to Plow, a local band that plays old time string band music.
Havana Social Club in Cornelius will host the Lake Norman Rotary Club’s annual Wine Spectacular on Saturday night. Read the full story
