Thursday, Activate Community Through Theatre (ACT) invites youth aged 13-18 to audition for “Act Now: Stop Bullying” from 1:30-3:30pm at the Warehouse PAC. The Davidson College Symphony Orchestra invites the public for a performance featuring winners of Davidson College’s 2013 Concerto Competition starting at 7:30pm in Duke Family Performance Hall; the concert is free of charge. These range from a panel discussion with four North Carolina state legislators at Davidson College to Town Board meetings in both Cornelius and Davidson.  Cast Iron Filter plays a benefit reunion show Friday at Armour Street Theater in Davidson, and there’s a Food Truck Rally Saturday at the Oak Street Mill. Indies + Docs film festival has added a Friday screening as well as  Sat. at Cornelius Arts Center.

Warm up after a cold week at one of the many events in the Lake Norman region this weekend. All day Thursday, eat at select Cornelius area restaurants to support United Way of Central Carolinas during their United We Dine event. Thursday afternoon, Green Drinks Lake Norman presents an evening with Joel Olsen, Managing Director of O2 Energies, at the Kaleidoscope Event Center. Meanwhile, the Indies + Docs film series at Cornelius Arts Center has added a Friday screening to the Saturday show for the Beatles’ documentary “Good Ol’ Freda.” And Davidson men’s basketball fans will be in Charlotte Saturday for the Wildcats’ game against Virginia. David Henry Hwang

Election day is just around the corner, and so are numerous other events across the Lake Norman region. Davidson College’s annual Reynolds Lecture Monday night at 7:30 features playwright David Henry Hwang, author of the 1988 play M. Butterfly. Other lectures this week include on “Exploring the Milky Way” Tuesday at St. Alban’s Church in Davidson. Weekend highlights include the 19th Annual Sheep Dog Trials and Dog Festival at Rural Hill in Huntersville, an the Davidson Lands Conservancy’s annual campout at Fisher Farm.
