Get involved with your community this week by attending a local government meeting, visiting one of our public libraries, joining the Rotary Club, or participating in live music or trivia night with your neighbors. Monday, the Cornelius Planning Board will meet in the Cornelius Town Hall in Room 204 from 6pm-9pm. This weekend, dodge the rain and dry out at one of the numerous community events in our region. Thursday evening, participate in WFAE’s Conversation Series. This week’s event is “Food’s Role in Our Lives” at the Levine Museum of the New South from 7-8:30pm. In Davidson, Summit Coffee hosts local musician Jackie Moseley and in Birkdale, The Corkscrew features musicians Wally & Dave. Both acts last from 8-11pm. Where will you celebrate Independence Day this year? Celebrations are taking place across the area on or before Thursday, July 4 – from events at local parks to Wednesday’s annual Lowe’s YMCA Summer Celebration and fireworks in Mooresville to  the U.S. National Whitewater Center’s two-day bash. Head to the theater, enjoy live music, or hit the town for another full weekend in the Lake Norman region.  Davidson Community Players wrap up their production of  the Tony-award winning musical comedy “The Pajama Game” at Duke Family Performance Hall at Davidson College. The North Carolina United States Tennis Association Adult League championships runs through Sunday at various courts in the Lake Norman area, including Hough High School, North Meck Park, and River Run, which also will host the Player Party Friday night.

Classes, lectures, and seminars are taking place across the region this week. Davidson Planning Board will hold an open meeting at 6pm Monday at Davidson Town Hall. On Tuesday, The Daylily Book Club will meet at the Cornelius Library at 10am with special guest and Davidson College professor emeritus, Dr. Tony Abbott.
