There’s a good chance we’ll see many of you out and about this weekend at one of the 36 (yes 36) events we have listed around the region. They include two regattas, three farmer’s markets, two runs, six festivals – including a Cajun Fest, Beerfest, Wake the Lake, Festival in the Park, Taste of Birkdale, Oyster Fest and the Davidson Art Crawl. There’s also plenty of live music, including an Agave Baroque concert at St. Alban’s Episcopal Church in Davidson, Pepper Choplin in the Cornelius Concert Series at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church and Davidson College’s Symphony Orchestra & Jazz Ensemble on The Green.  On stage, you’ll find “Shakespeare Goes to Woodstock,” “Fuddy Meers” and “The Widows’ Handbook.” And if you’re looking for an outing, head to the Amazing Maize Maze in Huntersville or Yoga on the Green in Davidson.  It’s also Davidson College Homecoming. Read on for details about these and other events.

In collaboration with Special Olympics Lake Norman, the Lake Norman Yacht Club will host its second annual Special Olympics Sailing Regatta. The first warning horn to start the day’s races is scheduled for 10:15am on Saturday and 10am on Sunday, and they invite everyone to come out and show support. Down the lake a few markers, The Peninsula Yacht Club will be hosting its Peninsula Regatta Cup on Saturday and Sunday.

Lake adventures continue at Eddie’s Seafood and Raw Bar where the “Wake the Lake” wakeboard competition will take place. You can attend this all-day event by land or water from 9am until dark.

If you chose to make farmer’s markets part of your Saturday morning, the three towns of Huntersville, Davidson and Mooresville will all spoil you with a selection of fine goods and delicatessens.

For our runners, The Davidson Lands Conservancy will hosts its ninth annual “Run for Green.” This 5 and 10k will take you down scenic Davidson streets and greenways with a finish line at The Davidson Village Green. If you prefer a “muddier” alternative for your run, The US Whitewater Center will host Charlotte Young Life Mud Run at 9am, and it is sure to leave you dirty.

Davidson Alumni are invited to participate in the college’s Homecoming Weekend where the classes from 2010-2014 can expect special programming. The Davidson Wildcats football team will be on the field at Richardson Stadium Saturday afternoon for a homecoming game against Morehead State.

My family of four will take on Rural Hill’s Amazing Maze this weekend, and we can only hope we make it out to tell you how fun it is (if not, you’ll know where to find us).

The Charlotte community will be united in dialogue and celebration of the UN International Day of Peace on Saturday at 11am where the keynote address will be given by foreign minister of Sudan, Ali Karti. Mark Siljander (former Congressman and UN Ambassador) and former Green Beret, Jeremy Miller will be guest speakers.

Spice up your Saturday cajun-style at Romare-Bearden Park where you’ll feel like you are down in the bayou with creole cuisine and bands like the Wicked Mojos and Jeffrey Broussard and The Creole Cowboys from 2:30-8:30pm.

How does an afternoon of food and fashion sound? A Taste of Birkdale offers just that on Saturday. Sample some of Birkdale’s restaurant’s best entrées and wine selections. At 7pm at the fountain, a fashion show will take the catwalk, and you’ll love the sneak peak of the latest fall fashion.

Get your Zen on at the Village Green in Davidson as Binda Yoga brings hosts its third annual Yoga on the Green. Participants (on any level) will enjoy local food trucks, music and will take home a free yoga mat.

The Davidson Community Players present “Shakespeare Goes to Woodstock” on Saturday and Sunday, and “Fuddy Meers” will take the stage at The Warehouse, also on Saturday and Sunday. See our calendar for showtimes.

Lake Norman Wildlife Conservationists issue you and your friends a special invitation to their annual Wildlife Oyster and Shrimp Fest on Saturday beginning at 5pm. The festival will feature food, music, fun and a chance to visit LangTree of Lake Norman.

Also on Saturday evening, The Charlotte Beerfest, a showcase of craft beers from local, national and international breweries, will take place at BB&T Ballpark.

I’m up for another art festival and I hope you are too, because on Saturday at 6pm The Davidson Art Crawl will extend from South Main Street to The Rumor Mill on Depot Street with food trucks, local art and family fun.

You’re invited to a ‘Sweet 16′ on Saturday night because it just so happens to be Summit Coffee’s 16th birthday. Swing by to check out one of the many local brews on tap, sample food truck fare and enjoy the country alternative talents of “Grievous Angels.”

At Mt. Zion Church in Cornelius, church musician and comedian Pepper Choplin will perform at 7pm with the UMC Chancel Choir. The band “Matrimony” will be at The Whitewater Center’s River Jam, and you can mellow out to Cool River at Bacchus Wine and Tapas in Mooresville. The Carrburrators will bring their jazz and funk style to Carrburritos in Davidson, and local musicians Scott Johnson and Jimbo Chapman will be at The Rusty Rudder. Lastly, Jared Allen will top off your busy Saturday at The Corkscrew in Birkdale Village.

The Special Olympics Sailing Regatta and The Peninsula Cup continue on Sunday, and The Amazing Maize Maze is open from 10am-5pm. “Shakespeare Goes to Woodstock” will present a Sunday showing.

Stop into the Village Store in downtown Davidson for an autumn open house at 10am. Enjoy refreshments, music, raffles and store specials, and the first 20 customers will receive “swag bags!”

A reading from “The Widows’ Handbook,” which is a collection of poems and short prose by more than 80 women of all ages and backgrounds, will be at The Warehouse in Cornelius at 2pm.

At Freedom Park in Charlotte, “Festival in the Park” will make for a lovely Sunday afternoon with over 150 artisans, a youth and variety stage, cirque stage, karaoke, a family fun zone and a diverse selection of food and music!

Join St. Alban’s Episcopal Church as they welcome their 11th season of providing world-class music for the Lake Norman Area. They will open their “BachFest” season with “Agave Baroque,” which is a dynamic ensemble specializing in string chamber music of the seventeenth century.

Bring a blanket, sunglasses and plenty of water to the Village Green in Davidson on Sunday, because the Davidson College Symphony Orchestra will be on fire as their Symphony Orchestra and Jazz Ensemble puts on a spectacular performance that is sure to end your weekend on a high note!
