HUNTERSVILLE – Every fall Huntersville plays host to the Carolina Renaissance Festival and Artisan Marketplace, now in its 21st year on the 22-acre site off Poplar Tent Road. As one of the largest Renaissance festivals in the United States, it draws thousands every year with its performances, vendors, rides and food.
The Festival is a gaudy celebration of all the best aspects of the 16th century – jesters, jousting, and mead – with none of the bad – no need to worry about the Bubonic Plague or Spanish Inquisition. Performances ranging from risque to family-friendly take place around the clock on the festival’s 11 stages; knights joust at full tilt three times a day; and glass-blowers, artists, and authors peddle their work.
This year’s festival will also feature themed weekends that invite visitors to dress as characters from Harry Potter, Game of Thrones, and Lord of the Rings. A new feature this year is ¡Fiesta Renaissance! which will showcase guest performers doing Spanish cultural dances and comedy.
