It was enjoyable to see so much of our readership out at the ‘Tawba Walk this past Saturday, relishing the art, food and drink, and fine company. We look forward to seeing even more of you this week at events like the Community “Pint Night” at Summit Coffee, The Sea Scouts open house ^[2], “Fuddy Meers” ^[1]at The Warehouse, The Amazing Maize Maze ^[3] and the Chamber Champions of Diversity breakfast. We also may bump into you at the Cornelius Town Board meeting, The Davidson Design Review Board meeting, a lecture, film or sporting event at Davidson College or at the Hough High “eat-around.”  This week also brings Davidson College homecoming and lots of live music at venues including Campania Cafe, Flatiron Kitchen, The Galway Hooker, The Rusty Rudder, Bacchus Wine and Tapas and Kadi Fit ^[4]. On Saturday, downtown Davidson has a trifecta of community events on the green, the Davidson Lands Conservancy’s Run for Green, Yoga on the Green and an evening downtown art crawl. 

Spend some time at the Cornelius Library on Monday morning with your little ones at their baby storytime ^[5], followed by a tots storytime ^[6]. On Thursday, girls are invited to join the library for a lively discussion about books with great female characters ^[7]. This month’s book is “Ivy and Bean” by Annie Barrows. Monday evening the Cornelius Town Board ^[8] will host its bi-monthly meeting at Town Hall from 7-9pm. A “pre-meeting” discussion will begin at 6pm.

On Tuesday at the Birkdale Pavilion, the Lake Norman Chamber of Commerce will hold its fourth annual “Champions of Diversity Breakfast ^[9]” where awards such as a Lifetime Achievement will be presented to businesses, both small and large, that have demonstrated their support and commitment to a diverse workplace. Also on Tuesday morning, the BNI Winners Circle ^[10] networking group will have its weekly meeting at The U Center in Mooresville from 8-9:30am.

Public radio station WFAE- FM hosts a public conversation ^[11] from 7-9pm at UNC Charlotte Center City, looking at the changing climate for education in the Charlotte region.

Davidson College will host several events on Tuesday including the start of their film series “Humor and ….” The first film will be “Humor and Film ^[12]” and will feature Maggie McCarthy (German Studies), Paul Miller (English) and Greg Snyder (Religion).

This year’s Wearn Lecture ^[13] features Tony DeRose, a senior scientist and lead of the Research Group at Pixar Animation Studios. The first of several lectures begin on Tuesday evening at 7:30pm. At 7pm, the Davidson Men’s soccer team ^[14] will take on Wake Forest University.

We look forward to seeing our readers at Summit Coffee in downtown Davidson on Wednesday night as they will host a Community Pint Night ^[15] from 6-10pm in support of DavidsonNews.net and CorneliusNews.net. Come out and meet the staff and hoist a pint or sip a latte to support community news on the web. Summit will contribute 20 percent of the revenues from all 16-ounce drinks.

Also on Wednesday, the award-winning Hough High School band program continues hosting a series of “Dine-Around ^[16]” fund-raising events. Come out and enjoy a “pep” band that will entertain the crowd at Tenders in Cornelius from 4-9pm.

At Davidson Town Hall, The Davidson Design Review Board ^[17] will meet at 7pm to discuss and review design proposals and appeals for the Town of Davidson, and at Flatiron Kitchen and Taphouse ^[18] enjoy fine cuisine coupled with live music from 7-9pm.

The Lake Norman Kiwanis Club ^[19] will meet on Thursday morning. And if you’re interested in a tutorial on how to borrow eBooks, bring your device, account information and questions to the Cornelius Library ^[20] at 10:30am.

Also Thursday, North Mecklenburg Senior Center offers seniors and their families an AARP class ^[21] on financial and social information.

In the early evening, Toastmasters ^[22], a nationally recognized group whose members are working to improve their speaking and leadership skills, will meet at The U Center at 6pm. UNC-Charlotte author and researcher Scott Fitzgerald will explore America’s middle class and how it is suffering an economic meltdown and the threats it poses at the first of several lectures as part of UNCC’s “Personal Speaking” series ^[23].

At Davidson College, Dr. Ebrahim Moosa, Professor of Religious and Islamic Studies at Duke University, will discuss “Islamic Bioethics: Recent Debates about Brain Death and Organ Transplants ^[24]” at 7:30pm in Hance Auditorium in the Chambers Building. Also on the Davidson Campus, The Wildcat women’s soccer team ^[25] will take on William and Mary at 7pm.

We continue to help you round the corner towards the weekend with top-notch entertainment on Thursday night with Handsome Rebellion at Bacchus Wine and Tapas ^[26] from 7-9pm and Sol Driven Train at River Jam ^[27] at The US Whitewater Center.

The Warehouse in Cornelius brings the hit “Fuddy Meers ^[1]” to the stage this Thursday, Friday and Saturday where the audience will experience a plethora of comedic content. This is a story of an amnesiac named Claire who awakens each morning as a blank slate on which her husband and teenage son must imprint the facts of her life who one day is abducted by a man who claims her husband wants to kill her.

Friday kicks off Davidson College’s 3-day annual alumni weekend ^[28]. Friday also bring the start to The Peninsula Yacht Club’s Regatta Cup ^[29]. Three days of family fun are guaranteed at the Amazing Maize Maze ^[3] at Rural Hill where you’ll be challenged to find your way out of a jungle of intricacy.

Lunch with locals in the lot ^[30] at the Oak Street Mill from 11am-2pm Friday, brought to you by Cornelius Cultural Arts Group. Or food truck fans can wait for dinner, when the corner of Camden and Park Avenues in Charlotte’s South End ^[31] is where you’ll find trucks that cater to your every taste.

Marvel in musical talent on Friday night on the porch of Café Campania ^[32] where Clyde Derberry and Scotti Benge will perform. At The Rusty Rudder ^[33] enjoy scenic views and easy jams by Scott Johnson who will relax you after a busy week. Jay Mathey will keep you up past your bedtime at the Galway Hooker ^[34] and fan favorite, Sunday Union will be at Summit Coffee ^[35].

I just took a peek at our weekend calendar ^[37] and I’m excited for what we have in store and yet another opportunity to see some of our readers out and about. In addition to the Peninsula Cup Regatta and Davidson Homecoming Weekend continuing, you will also have a blast at “Wake the Lake,” Yoga on the Green, an Oyster Fest, a downtown Davidson Art Crawl and two more performances of “Shakespeare Goes to Woodstock.” We also have the “Run for Green” half marathon and Davidson Football will host Morehead State.
