Live comedy, golf tourney, and music on WDAV

[1]You’re probably not looking forward to the rest of the week after your well-deserved three-day holiday comes to a close. But we just might improve your outlook enough to keep your weekend glow going with events like the Chiquita Classic Golf Tournament [2], a South End gallery crawl [3], an improv performance [4], food trucks, football [5] and soccer [6] games and live music. We also have a Davidson College Community Involvement event [7], afterschool programs that begin this week and two evenings of superb music at WDAV [8]!
Tuesday continues the week-long Chiquita Classic [2] at River Run. This local tournament, operated by Chiquita for Charities – a North Carolina nonprofit, showcases some of the best golf on the Web.com Tour and benefits charitable organizations in the greater Charlotte area. Later on Tuesday, the Davidson Town Board meeting [9] will take place at the Town Hall at 4pm.
The Town of Davidson kicks off its afterschool programs [10]with an 8-week fencing class on Tuesday for students at the Parks and Recreation Facility.
What would hump day be without “Lunch in the Lot [11]” at The Oak Street Mill in Cornelius? Leave some room for another meal later in the day that benefits a good cause, because the Hough High School Band asks for your support as they rally to raise $47,000 through sponsorship and a series of “dine-arounds [12].” First stop is Panda Express and Sweet Frog from 4-9pm. Afterwards, stop by Flatiron Kitchen + Taphouse [13] in Davidson for live music at 7pm.
As the Chiquita Classic Week [14] continues, so do more networking opportunities around the lake. The Kiwanis Club [15] will meet at 7:30am on Thursday morning, and Lady MSI [16] members and associates will meet at the Springhill Suites in Mooresville at 8am. Members, potential new members and associates are all encouraged to register and to bring their literature and business cards.
Thursday will begin the first of a series of beginner piano lessons [17] for your 4-5 year old. In honor of National Sickle Cell Awareness Month, The American Red Cross encourages eligible donors to help ensure a stable and diverse blood supply by giving blood [18] at the Charles Mack Senior Center in Mooresville from 2-5:30pm. While in Mooresville, head over to Bacchus Wine and Tapas [19] to hear “White Chocolate” at 7pm or head to Queens Landing [20] for live music and family fun. If your schedule doesn’t permit a trip to Queens Landing Thursday, there will also be music on Friday evening there as well.
River Jam [21] continues Thursday evening too as the festivities kick off at 7pm, and Bella Love presents open-mic night [22] for artists and performers of music, visual, poetry and comedy – all ages and genres are welcome.
PFLAG Lake Norman [23] will hold their monthly meeting at the Davidson College Presbyterian Church on Thursday evening from 7-9pm. PFLAG Lake Norman promotes the health and well-being of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender persons, their families and friends through support, education and advocacy.
Thursday evening wraps up with Open Air Brevard [24] on WDAV where JoAnn Falletta leads the Brevard Music Center Orchestra in Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition, so be sure to tune in from 8-10pm. On Friday WDAV will present The University of South Carolina Symphony Orchestra [24] as they perform from 7-9pm.
This short week concludes on Friday with the Cornelius Cultural Arts Group as it hosts food trucks in Old Town Cornelius for “Lunch In the Lot [25]” from 11am-2pm in the parking lot at The Pick-It Furniture and The Furniture Guy.
If you missed the opportunity to donate blood [26] in honor of National Sickle Cell Awareness month, Lake Norman Regional Medical Center encourages you to come by between 11:30am and 3:30pm.
Bring your young cat in the hat to auditions for Seussical Jr [27]. The auditions will be held from 6-8pm at The Armour Street Theater. Also on Friday, the Warehouse in Cornelius will host The Improv Vikings comedy troupe [4]. They will be in town for two nights of comedy on Friday and Saturday. The show consists entirely of improvised skits, with lots of audience interaction.
The first Friday of every month The Light Factory [28] showcases a selection of films from film-makers off the radar from 7-10pm, and down in Historic South End the First Friday Gallery Crawl [3] will take place from 6-9pm. Live music Friday night can be found on the porch at Campania Café & Trattoria [29] with Clyde Derberry and Scotti Benge, The Galway Hooker [30] with Scott Munns and the Rusty Rudder [31] with Disco Lemonade.
Friday night, Davidson [6] takes on Jacksonville University at the Athletic Outdoor Spaces Alumni Soccer Stadium at 7pm, and down the street, Hough High hosts Lake Norman [5] at 7pm.
