This week is full of an array of events that are happening around our community. On Monday there will be two golf tournaments. Chicks with Sticks and The Curry Celebrity Classic. On Tuesday and Wednesday bring the kids to a dollar movie at Birkdale Village. On Thursday, Davidson Community Players will present 42ndStreet, and Bella Love will host an open-mic night at Kadi Fit. Bring your teens and “tweens” to a concert on Friday at The Warehouse, and then take a stroll to downtown Cornelius for an art exhibition at the Community Arts Project. There are also several local meetings that are on the agenda for this week, including a discussion with a local commissioner that you may not want to miss.
Monday morning join the Lake Norman Chamber of Commerce as it hosts its annual Chicks with Sticks women’s golf invitational at Northstone Country Club in Huntersville. Registration begins at 8:00AM, and there is a shotgun start at 9:00AM. Also on Monday, join Basketball stars Dell and Stephen Curry as they host their annual Curry Celebrity Classic Golf Tournament at River Run Country Club in Davidson. Proceeds will benefit the Ada Jenkins Center.
Cornelius Town Commissioner John Bradford will hold his monthly Cornelius Coffee Chat on Monday, June 16th from 9:30AM-10:45AM at the Acropolis Restaurant. Later in the day, the Cornelius Town Board meets at 7pm, with an agenda that includes possible votes on the annual budget and on a new 94-unit housing development off Bailey Bailey Road, across from Hough High School.
Keep cool on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings and head indoors with the kids to Regal Birkdale Stadium 16 at 10am and watch “Hotel Transylvania” on Tuesday and “The Smurfs” on Wednesday. This begins the nine-week Summer Movie Express where admission to these morning movies is only $1. Later on, grab some lunch at the Oak Street Mill “Lunch in the Lot,” with a food truck serving lunch in the parking lot from 11:00AM-2:00PM. Wednesday evening The Davidson Design Review Board will meet at 7:00PM at the Davidson Town Hall to discuss and review design proposals and appeals for the Town of Davidson.
On Thursday The Lake Norman Kiwanis Club meets at 7:30AM at the Acropolis Restaurant in Cornelius and is actively seeking new members. Bella Love presents open-mic night at Kadi Fit for artists and performers. Head to Alton’s Kitchen and Cocktails for a celebrity artending event. Former Carolina Panther Rod Smith will be among the guests helping to raise money for Big Brothers Big Sisters, in a kickoff for July’s Big Day at the Lake. Davidson Community Players will open its production of “42nd Street” Thursday evening at 8 at Davidson College’s Duke Family Performance Hall. Performances continue all weekend.
If you prefer to be outdoors, Cornelius PARC presents the 2014 Outdoor Cinema Series at Ramsey Creek, weather permitting, movies will begin at dusk (approximately 8pm). This week’s movie: “Delivery Man.” The movies are free and open to the public. Don’t forget to bring your lawn chairs and blankets.
Enjoy the “Main Street Art Exhibition” Friday from 5-9pm at The Community Arts Project and Cafe Elie, in the Chair Factory Shops on North Main Street in Cornelius. Looking for something to do for your teens and “tweens”? Bring them to The Warehouse as Nikki Fellows & The Glass Hammers join forces for a concert Friday evening. End your week on the right note by watching the sunset, and listening to some music at Mingling on the Green concert series in Birkdale Village.
