What a great Father’s Day Weekend lies ahead.  You’re sure to find something each family member will enjoy on this weekend’s community calendar. Wake up on Saturday and get to the Davidson Farmer’s Market or if you’re in the mood for some fitness, there’s the Latta Plantation triathlon or the 6K Brew Dash at The Whitewater Center.

The kids may enjoy the WOW nature outing or swimming tryouts. You can bring Dad to a Father’s Day Program at Discovery Place Kids or maybe he would enjoy a baseball game. Be sure to take in some art at the Mooresville Artist Guild or the 2nd Friday Art Craw in Cornelius on Friday, or the next Davidson Art Crawl on Saturday. On Saturday, there’s the weekly music jam at Richard’s Coffee Shop, and comedy at The Tavern. Don’t miss the Concert on the Green on Sunday and a lawn party a The VanLandingham Estate.

Saturday morning, head over to Historic Latta Plantation for the Tri Latta Triathlon. This race features a 17-mile bike ride, a 750M swim, and a 5k run. If you’re headed to Charlotte, it’s time for the 3rd annual Brew Dash 6K and post race Brew Dash Bash at the US National Whitewater Center that winds through the center’s trails.

The Kids are sure to enjoy the WOW nature outing that the Davidson Lands Conservancy and Woodland Discovery will host. It’s a free nature outing in the Davidson/North Mecklenburg area from 9:30-11am.

Discovery Kids in Huntersville will have a Father’s Day Program on Saturday at 10:45am and 1:45pm to celebrate the special fathers, grandfathers, and other role models in our lives. Story Time at Town Hall will lead into gift-making in I CAN Create. Free with Museum admission.

Relax at Richard’s Coffee Shop in Mooresville, and enjoy a community music jam with bluegrass musicians from around the region from 9am to noon.

The Carolina Raptor Center in Huntersville presents “Talons: Birds of the World,” its summer “Flight Show” Saturdays and Sundays, at 1 and 3pm, through Labor Day weekend, in the Raptor Amphitheatre. The show features native and exotic species flying over the crowd and under the tree canopy delighting visitors of all ages.

On Saturday afternoon, Sailfish Aquatics is pleased to announce a partnership with Huntersville Family Fitness and Aquatics (HFFA) to establish a competitive swim team. The year round competitive swim team will be conducting team tryouts on June 14 and by appointment to fit your schedule from 1 to 3pm.

Later Saturday, The Sanctuary of Davidson will sponsor a Downtown Davidson Art Crawl in the Historic District of Davidson from 6-9pm. The crawl will include more than 25 local artists. The American Legion Post 66 Moors will host Wilkes County at 7PM, at Lake Norman High School Baseball Park. This is sure to be a homerun.

Enjoy a solo performance by Andy Irvine at the Jim Rivers Fellowship Hall. Doors open at 7:30PM and the event will begin at 8PM. Find out more or purchase tickets at

If it’s laughter you desire, you are sure to find it at The Tavern, Saturday at 8:00PM when The Paternity Test Comedy Improv Musical Variety Extravaganza Starring the Chuckleheads perform. The Tavern tickets are $10 when purchased at www.planetimprov.com or $15 at the door. Be sure to check it out!

On Sunday, grab Dad and head to a lawn party at the VanLandingham Estate at 12:00
PM in Charlotte for their Father’s Day Lawn Party. Enjoy live Entertainment, a delicious Eastern-style BBQ plate, and a cash bar, which includes local brews from Birdsong Brewery. Bring your own blankets, Frisbees, and lawn chairs – just no coolers. Bring the dog too! All ages welcome.

Wrap up your weekend by enjoying The Dickens Band perform as part of the Concerts on the Green series from 6-8pm. These veterans of the Southeastern music scene have joined forces to bring audiences the best party songs from the last two decades, along with classics everyone loves. The Dickens Band mixes up classic R&B, classic and modern rock, 80s retro, reggae, old school and current hip-hop, and everything in between.
