Summer is nearly here and that means a big musical from Davidson Community Players. The company’s first summer show will be the Tony Award-winning musical “42nd Street,” running June 19-28 at Davidson College’s Duke Family Performance Hall. With music by Harry Warren and lyrics by Al Dubin, it’s one of the longest running shows on Broadway – but you won’t have to go there to see it.
“42nd Street” is directed by Melissa Ohlman-Roberge. It’s the story of hard work, being in the right place at the right time, talent and love. It’s a celebration of Broadway and the people involved in shows. The story focuses on aspiring chorus girl, Peggy Sawyer, her tap-dancing friends and rivals, and her journey to stardom.
Time magazine called this show “A Musical Made In Heaven!” Musical hits include “You’re Getting to Be a Habit with Me,” “Dames,” “We’re In the Money,” “Lullaby of Broadway,” “Shuffle Off to Buffalo” and “42nd Street.”
Tickets are $24 for adults, $22 for seniors and $12 for students. Tickets may be purchased by calling the box office at 704-892-7953 or online at davidsoncommunityplayers.org.
