So many cool events happening this weekend that it’s hard to decide what to pick. But, having too many is a good thing and a sure sign that we live in a vibrant, active community. The first event I’d like to highlight is a chance to participate in one of the most original reality show concepts I’ve ever seen.
A production company from Charlotte (Susie Films) is bringing “Waaay Off Broadway” auditions to Davidson this weekend. The concept centers around small town life and a last minute stage production put on by the community, all captured by cameras for television. No acting experience is necessary, just show up for tryouts on Saturday and (if you make the cut) perform Sunday, it’s that simple. Suffer from stage fright? That’s ok. They need locals to fill up the audience, too. Sound interesting? Then head over to the Armour Street Theater between the hours of 8:30am – 1pm on Saturday March 8th and get in on the action. Speaking of community, tonight, Friday, March 7, marks the opening of a cool exhibit by environmental artist Bryant Holsenbeck who, along with volunteers, used recycled items to create a mandala on the floor of the Cornelius Arts Center. Don’t miss Gallery Crawl at Eden Street Market
Back in Davison, Saturday night brings us the 2nd Saturday Gallery Crawl at Eden Street Market. Check out the vendors and support local artisans in the old warehouse from 5pm – 7pm.
Sunday, March 9th, I’ve picked an opportunity to give back. The Bin in Huntersville is looking for volunteers to help paint, clean, and hang curtains at 2pm. Located at 119 N Old Statesville Rd (Hwy 115) Huntersville, the 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization provides furnishings, bedding, and appliances to families in need. Saturday, March 8th, is International Women’s Day! Pick a woman in your life and show her how you much she is appreciated. And, if you are a woman, raise a glass to yourself and celebrate all that you are, and all that you contribute to this world. I hope you all have a wonderful weekend and join me in wishing this wintry weather away. I’ve rolled out the doormat for spring and am impatiently awaiting its return.
