Our Events Calendar [2] lists plenty of activities around the Lake Norman area this week, from public meetings to theater to basketball. On Tuesday, the Smith Artist Series at Davidson College presents a performance by the Cashore Marionettes of Life in Motion. On Wednesday, Davidson Green School holds another information session for interested families, and Green Drinks Lake Norman will hold their monthly meeting to discuss water reclamation and other topics. There’s a nature program at North Meck Senior Center Monday and Davidson men’s basketball is at home Thursday. Read on for more highlights and events from This Week’s calendar.
COMING UP THIS WEEK
This Monday learn from master naturalist Christopher Baldwin about animal skulls and how they differ from human skulls at a nature program at the North Mecklenburg Senior Center [3] at 10:30am. Monday evening, the Davidson Planning Board will meet [4] at 7pm to discuss the village infill overlay and other business, and the Cornelius Town Board meeting [5] will be held from 7-9pm with a pre-meeting discussion at 6pm. The Davidson College Women’s Basketball team faces Appalachian State [6] at home at 7pm, looking to build on their win against WCU last weekend. The Charlotte Jewish Film Festival, in collaboration with the Jewish Council of Lake Norman, will present a screening of the film “When Jews Were Funny” [7] at 7pm at the Regal Cinemas Birkdale.
On Tuesday Davidson College invites the public to attend a discussion with Meg Jay, clinical Assistant professor at UVA and the author of The Defining Decade: Why Your Twenties Matter And How to Make the Most of Them [8], at 11am in Hance Auditorium of the Chambers Building. Davidson’s Town Board meets Tuesday [9], with a 4pm pre-meeting and the 6pm monthly work session.
St. Alban’s Episcopal Church will host a mental health form [10] at 7pm in the church nave to discuss a wide range of mental disorders, including substance dependence and how to advocate and support for the mentally ill. The Davidson College Smith Artist Series presents a performance from the Cashore Marionettes of Life in Motion [11], puppet vignettes that explore different facts of the human experience, at 8pm in the Duke Family Performance Hall at Davidson College.

This Wednesday grab your lunch at Lunch in the Lot, a weekly food truck rally [12] organized by the Cornelius Cultural Arts Group, from 11am – 2pm at the Oak Street Mill in downtown Cornelius. The Davidson Green School will hold an information session [13] at 5:30pm at the school’s campus for interested students and their parents. Be sure to register online before attending. The Improv Vikings Improv 101 Class [14] will continue their 6-week improv comedy class at The Davidson Beverage Company at 7pm.
Thursday is Polar Bear Day at Discovery Place [15], an event to teach guests how they can help protect polar bears through conservation. The Lake Norman Kiwanis Club will meet [16] at 7:30am and is actively seeking new members. Green Drinks Lake Norman [17] will meet from 5:30pm-7pm at South Main Square’s Kaleidoscope Meeting Center. This month’s speaker is Dana Hicks, who will speak on water reclamation and other topics.
Thursday night brings the final home game of the season for the Davidson Wildcats men’s basketball team, a 7pm tipoff against UNC Greensboro [18]. The week’s end also brings Polar Bear Discovery Day at Discovery Place [15].
