
“Mr. Marmalade” Feb. 19-23 at Davidson College
This Week brings several lectures, including the novelist Don DeLillo and Watson Fellow Annie Temmink at Davidson College, the opening of the Davidson Theatre Department’s presentation of “Mr. Marmalade,” and a rescheduled Town Board meeting following last week’s inclement weather. Other civic and interest group meetings are also on the schedule as the Lake Norman region thaws out. Read on for more highlights and events from This Week’s calendar.
COMING UP THIS WEEK

Don DeLillo speaks Monday at Davidson.
Monday evening at 7pm, the Lake Norman Big Band puts on its monthly concert at the Finish Line Restaurant in Mooresville. At 7:30pm, Summit Coffee hosts trivia night upstairs at its main street location – be sure to arrive early to register your team, get a table, and grab a drink. Davidson College invites the public to the annual Conarroe Lecture with novelist Don DeLillo, winner of numerous literary prizes including the National Book Award for his novel “White Noise” in 1985. The lecture will begin at 8pm in the Duke Family Performance Hall.
Tuesday morning, the Cannon School will host an Upper School (grades 9-12) information session at 10am for students and parents interested in attending the Cannon School. The information session begins at 10am on Cannon’s campus. The PROBUS Club of Lake Norman, a non-political and non sectarian club open to retired professional and business persons and their spouses will feature a talk by Mr. Norm Oches, a prominent local researcher of grapes, grapevines and wine marketing specialist at its meeting at 10:30 at Berea Baptist Church. The North Mecklenburg Senior Center will host a fraud prevention program on February 18 at 10:30am featuring Barbara Bennett, an investor education specialist for the North Carolina Secretary of State Securities Division. The Davidson Parks and Recreation Master Plan Steering Committee seeks input from all citizens at a public forum Tuesday evening at 7pm at Davidson Town Hall. Town residents, business owners, open space and trails advocates, sports groups, recreation enthusiasts, and other interested parties are encouraged to attend to share ideas.
On Wednesday, DavidsonLearns continues its 5-week class titled “Building Our Family Tree,” a course designed to help students understand evolution, understand the question “where did I come from?” and use geological tools online. The class meets at Temple Kol Tikva from 10am-noon. Lunch in the Lot, an event organized by the Cornelius Cultural Arts Group, returns with another food truck at the Oak Street Mill from 11am-2pm. The Davidson Town Board will meet after its February 11 meeting was rescheduled because of wintry weather. The board will meet at 4pm for their pre-meeting and the regular meeting will begin at 6pm, both in the Davidson Town Hall. Davidson College invites the public to a talk by Thomas J. Watson Fellow Annie Temmink. Temmink, a 2011 Davidson graduate, will discuss her experiences studying fashion and textiles in Indonesia, Japan, India, Uganda and Tanzania at 7pm in the Alvarez College Union. The Davidson College Theatre Department will open its performance of “Mr. Marmalade,” which will be open through the weekend, at 7:30pm in the Barber Theatre.
